I need help from all you expert googlers.
DH's grandma is going to be 99 in a couple of weeks. She loves a scent from yardley called april violets but they've stopped doing it now. She wants to be independent but struggles and one of the only things she can do beauty wise without help is puff talc over to make her smell nice.
Please help me find some april violets talc for her birthday (or a violet smelling talc). My googling efforts have got me nowhere

Violet perfumes from this link here

Violet Angel - Thiery Mugler (violet and patchouli, very modern)
N'aimez que Moi - Caron (violet, rose and vanilla, made for WW1 soldiers to give to their sweethearts)
Violette Precieuse - Caron (a violet for Colette, green but a bit soapy for me)
Bois de Violette - Serge Lutens (wood and violets, only available in Paris)
Lipstick Rose - Editions Malle (violet and rose, intense)
Lolita Lempicka - Lolita Lempicka (anise and violet leaves, very sweet)

Thanks but links from shopwiki are out of stock (been there!) also saw that link on ebay and wasn't sure about it - looks very old - might be a bit dodgy?? (as in mouldy or no smell?) Does talc have a best before date??

scrappydappydoo · 15/10/2009 22:29

ebay but i will have a quick peek elsewhere too.

pooter · 15/10/2009 22:32

oh i am SO SLOW....

Romanarama · 15/10/2009 22:32

Ask them whether they'll ship to UK, in the circumstances. They might take pity.

Romanarama · 15/10/2009 22:34

Or call HQ in UK and ask for help: Yardley
Tel: 01276 674 000 Monday - Friday 9.00 - 17.00
Fax: 01276 674 099

The Violette range smells a lot like Yardleys, I wear it because it reminds me of the Yardely set I was given when I was little!

scrappydappydoo · 15/10/2009 22:36

Thanks all - I'll send e-mail and see...
They discontinued it about 5 years ago and we've always been able to get hold it til now. It smells just like parma violets - I may resort to just crushing those up for her!! Seriously - do you think the ebay one would be ok??

I have a Violette di Parma perfume that dh bought me when he was in Parma last year. It's lovely and the bottle is beautiful. This is not the same bottle, but worth a try?

Romanarama · 16/10/2009 08:24

It's amazing what info you can find on the internet

VulgarAchesButCanRun5k · 16/10/2009 08:58

I second the Penhaligons Violette range. I am a violet addict and i used to be my Yardley's abroad 'cos I could never get it here.

CornishKK · 16/10/2009 09:44

Vulgar - I've never met any one else with a violet addiction! Have you tried Hope & Greenwood chocolate violet creams - divine?!

suggy · 16/10/2009 10:24

Almost want to cry - my daughter is called Violet and this whole email evokes lovely emotions.

Good luck with your quest for your grandma. We have a delightful old chemist shop here that sells Trumpers shaving gear, and powder compacts and all the makes of talc - could you find your local equivalent ?

VulgarAchesButCanRun5k · 19/10/2009 08:07

ooo yes, Cornish. hope and Greenwoods violet creams are divine. They also do a rose geranium one to which is pretty delish too!

VulgarAchesButCanRun5k · 19/10/2009 08:08

P.S Suggy. Violet is a gorgeous name.

scrappydappydoo · 22/10/2009 15:53

Just thought I'd post an update - massive thank you to romanarama - I rang up yardley uk and they have found what I think must be the last remaining tin in britain and are sending it to me.
Yay for Yardley!!! Buy all their products...

Vulgar · 22/10/2009 16:35
