Repair or replace? Winter coat with very ripped lining.

I love my coat. But the lining is very ripped, the pockets go thorugh all the way to the bottom of the coat, it is a mess.

Does anyone know how much it costs and how you go about finding someone to fix things like this?

The coat cost £100 from Oasis a couple of years ago, I do love it but if it's going o be expensive to fix I should just find a new one - and stop wearing spiky jewellery that rips things.

If anyone's intereste it's a black knee-length wool-ish textured coat, hidden buttons, very wide collar thing, lovely outline (not chunky but smooth).

Any dressmakers/sewing shop would fix it for you .

Take it to your nearest tailor and they will give you a quote. I have only ever had zips replaced (about 15 each!) if the outside is still nice it could be your chance to choose some funky lining fabric and update it.

So what do I look for in yellow pages? Tailor? Seamstress? Alterations?

£15 for a zip makes me think this is going to cost too much...

Well we have a couple of tailors in town...they are sometimes a part of a shoe menders, or near a station for some strange reason. But I would look under clothes alterations. bear in mind even if it costs you £40 you will effectively be getting a 'new' coat. You couldn't replace it for that much.

Depends how much you want to save the coat. I can never find just the right long black winter coat so had my faithful Karen Millen one re-lined for £120....I think you could get it done cheaper though. That was a combination of choosing gorgeous teal satin and using a tailor in the middle of the City of London!

Hmm, yes. See maybe I need to start a 'find me a coat' thread and see what turns up...

DH had the lining of his leather jacket replaced for £40 via a local dry-cleaner.

Dry-cleaners, that's a good idea. Lots of them do alterations bt they don't come up when you search for alterations in the yellow pages.
