A foundation that'll last all day...

I have been out shopping today looking for a new foundation. But which one is the best?

I want something that is long lasting, not too heavy or drying and not too expensive. I have tried Estee Lauder but it brought me out in a few spots, plus you don't get alot of foundation for the price tag.

HELP!

Lol you sound like me! I can't help cos I am trying to find one that will last all day but for greasy skin!!

I end up with very shiny oily face and spots as soon as I wear make up

Hope somebody in the know comes along!

If you can apply it properly with the right kind of brush mineral makeup can last all day.

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/10/2009 13:53

I think that foundation which lasts all day is a bit of a double edged sword, actually.

I used to use Double Wear from Estee Lauder, yes it lasted all day but made my skin very dry and had blotchy red patches (skin nirmally dry/sensitive), looked like a mask and was an awful texture, like PVA glue.

After many trial and errors, I now go for texture and finish as opposed to durability. I use Eclat Opulent from By Terry, it costs a fortune but the texture is so smooth, doesn't aggravate my sensitive skin and makes my skin look flawless (ha!). I just carry it around with me in my handbag and have to touch it up during teh day, as it frankly doesn;t last, however that is a tradeoff I am more than happy with.

It might not last all day (I never check once I've lobbed some in the general direction of my face on the way out of the door) but I'm a total convert to Clarins, Instant Smooth in a little pot- it's a creamy mousse jobby that smooths out your lines and wrinkles....I am evangelical about it.....can you tell

If I'm going out again in the evening or whatever I just slop a bit more on top....and because it's a mousse it'ds really quick to lob on.

After using No7 mousse for over a year (Good budget buy) I've recently started using Lancome Color Ideal. It's not too heavy but makes my skin look much clearer and my skin sort of glows but doesn't look shiny. I found with the No7 mousse I needed to touch up with a little bit of powder during the day on my T zone but I don't with the Lancome.

Lancome are great for giving out samples so go to one of their counters and ask for a couple of shades to take home and try.

double wear is the best i have found so far...used to work for estee in a beauty hall and had the pleasure of lots of free samples!

try also lancome teint idol

dior sculpt
or
clinique continuous coverage.

cheaper

rimmel lasting finish foundation
max factor lasting performance

frakkinpannikin · 08/10/2009 14:11

Estee lauder's new minerals stuff is FAB.

Try using Laura Mercier's primer underneath - really makes a different.

ADifferentMe · 08/10/2009 14:31

Boots No7 Stay Perfect is brilliant. Always used Clinique before but I'm a convert.

tulpe · 08/10/2009 16:50

Chanel Vitalumiere is brilliant. Stays put and although expensive a bottle does last for a long time. I find that using powder too helps to "fix" your base and it stays put longer.

FabMum1 · 09/10/2009 12:38

Last night someone recommended a collection 2000 lasting performance one, does anyone know much about them ?

Rimmel lasting finish (18 hour) is fab and definately lasts all day.

AuntieMaggie · 09/10/2009 12:44

Estee Lauder double wear light for me

MegSophandEmma · 09/10/2009 12:46

Estee Lauder double wear is fab. To get it off in the evening I recommend a chisel and hammer. Love the stuff.

FabMum1 · 12/10/2009 12:33

Oh ladies, I'm even more confused!

FabMum1...

Why don't you ask for a few samples next time you're in the make-up department?

Talk to the assistant on each counter and explain that you'd like a long lasting, moisturising foundation that doesn't cause spots.

If the Estee Lauder foundation was a recent purchase and you've only used a tiny amount then take it back. They may change it for you.

Monsterspam · 12/10/2009 22:08

I was on the hunt for years (had acne from age 8) 'til I found Revlon Colourstay Foundation.

Ronaldinhio · 12/10/2009 22:11

chantecaille
expensive lasts literally forever
use primer
set with some powder

LolaAnn · 12/10/2009 22:41

Second Lancome Teint Idole Ultra. One of the very few truly all day foundations. Bit pricey, and you really need a foundation brush too, but 100% worth it.

hf128219 · 12/10/2009 22:43

Chanel Pro Lumiere

or Bobbi Brown Balm for a lighter look

And use a primer!

FabMum1 · 13/10/2009 14:11

I think I'm going to pick up a few testers from different counters and see which one is best.
Thanks for all your suggestions ladies
