Animal-print coat on someone over 40 - mutton dressed up as leopard?

really want one but am having to face up to the fact that I may not be able to wear what I like these days.

what's the honest MN verdict on this?

Depends on the coat - link it.

GirlsAreLOud · 30/09/2009 19:22

Muttontastic.

itchyandscratchy · 30/09/2009 19:34

something like this

Yes I know, it's next but the other ones I've looked at are A line and look like they should be worn by Joan Collins with white ski pants and a turban

Bet Lynch.

Don't listen to them! I am going to have two words for myself as I get older: "Vivienne Westwood". It depends what you look like and what your personal style is generally, but I don't see why you shouldn't - she does whatever the hell she wants sartorially. I'm 37 and I still wear pretty much what I did when I was 22 only a bit smarter - but that's because I like dressing up . I'm sure some people think I look a fright, and I'm probably deluded, but fuck 'em, I say.

Sorry, I think it is awful.

Not because of your age, I hate animal prints. I think that they always look cheap. (Bet Lynch)

CybilLiberty · 30/09/2009 19:44

I have a fab cotton trench coat in a muted leopard print and I love it and get comments each time I wear it. I say go for it, youre only young once who gives a shit what anyone else thinks.

itchyandscratchy · 30/09/2009 19:45

I don't care about the cheapness - I like that bit of it! and agree with daisyj about attitude. also depend what you wear it with. I'm wondering if Mary Portas would wear it. She's my over-40s hero

i would

BobtheWoodmouse · 30/09/2009 20:03

I like it but I would be very careful to tone down the rest of the outfit. My mate tried on the Sonya Rykiel leopard print trench recently and she looked fab, it looked great with her jeans and flats. Here's the mac plus ways of wearing it via polyvore - be careful with the polyvore site, tis a bit addictive:

cornsilk · 30/09/2009 20:05

I don't like it - looks cheap.

Themasterandmargaritas · 30/09/2009 20:14

Love that mac Bob. Go for it itchy.

PVish · 30/09/2009 20:22

i love fur

CybilLiberty · 30/09/2009 21:09

My mac is like the Sonia one but with darker backgrond and smaller print. I must dig it out once the temp drops below frigging 85 degrees

itchyandscratchy · 30/09/2009 21:11

i heart your name Cybil

where was your mac from?

OP posts:
itchyandscratchy · 30/09/2009 21:17

am liking the idea of the flat fabric of a mac. Now the faux fur one looks too 'shouldery' compared to the macs. like the outfir wouldn't be complete without holding a half-eaten bag of chips

Oh it was an impulse buy from marks about 4 years ago. i still love it as much as I did then
