Where to buy plain tops for layering?

I'm looking for basic t-shirt style tops for winter layering - especially white long sleeve.

Any suggestions for good ones that wash and wear and keep their shape? Are the White Company ones any good?

Top Shop do a lovely range of fine knit, long sleeve tee-shirts. Great quality and keep their shape. I own about 5

h&m. i find topshop hit and miss, sometimes they become favourites, sometimes they're out of shape on the first wash.

uniqlo are pretty good and affordable, no? They always seem to have lots of colour choices as well.

Thanks. Yes Uniqlo have been successful before. Maybe I'll try them again. Next question - how to keep my white tops...white!
