Meeting a Fashionista type friend tomorrow who I haven't seen for 4 years..

I haven't got a clue what to wear, other than I need to be warm. I think it's going to rain tomorrow too..

we'll be walking, drinking coffee, walking, having lunch, so need a combo of practical & yet not frumpy. She doesn't have kids.

Oh god the lunchdate from hell?

I suggest:
ancient leggings
uggs - preferable soggy wellworn ones
saggy t-shirt of your dh's
sick dribble down your back
inkempt hair
greggs bag
froot shoot!

What are your options?

I'd go tunic style thing, leggings and knee hight boots but it depends what you have and what you feel confident in.

I don't have leggings (I think I'm a bit too old & legs wrong shape)

I have jeans, which are a bit ankle swingerish. last years boden denim skirt, some white shirts/tank tops or v neck jumpers. Knee length boots, or leather lace up camper style shoes. A couple of belted short trenches. Several knitwear options, but too bulky to go under the coats mentioned.
Several scarfs/big sunnies & some attitude !

we always think we need to keep up with what is on the other side...but point is we're ALL doing it.

Of course it matters what you're wearing!! It's all about self-respect. For myself, I'd go classic - don't try and out-fashionista her, you'll be doomed to failure. Do you have a good pair of flat boots? I'd agree with the leggings with tunic or short dress over, a chunky cardigan over the top, a biiiig scarf, and if it's not raining, sunglasses to perch on your head. Bit of statement jewellery if you've got any (I have a couple of enormous bangles which I love, and a really cool necklace with a bird in flight pedant - all from Accesorize, so they don't need to be expensive).

I'd start by suggesting that you roll up your jeans, sort of 50s stylee, unless you have a v. fashionable pair. I have noticed that people are doing this and I have copied it. It's weird, but it sort of up-dates them with zero effort.

Knee length boots, black tights, skirt and trench, with white top underneath.

Do you couple that with a knotted handkerchief on your head, cherry? Sounds lovely

As a matter of fact I have a v. cute fake Chanel jacket (from M and S) and I wore that, the jeans, T-shirt and converse to meet MY fashionista mate the other day (and she is scarey fashionista! ex-fashion editor scarey) and was commended!

So nyyeerrr. Though I think Lulubee's advice is the one to go with.

I say go with the denim skirt, a white shirt, a tank top, trench and flat boots. Classic and timeless. Maybe a funky bangle or necklace to dress it up a bit. Enjoy!
