How wrong would it be to wear a bridesmaids dress before the wedding?

My friend is getting married in 3 months and she just bought me a gorgeous bridesmaid's dress. (not peach tafatta I haten to add, but a lovely silky sheath from Monsoon)

It's my birthday soon and DH is taking me out to a nice restaurant...I am really tempted to wear the new dress. I KNOW etiquette says I shouldnt wear the dress before her wedding, but is there any real harm?

The bride will never know and I am prepared to replace the dress if I spell red wine on it.

All opinions welcomed

don't you think you're being a bit of a tight arse though?

the dress (which presumably wasnt cheap) is for her wedding, yet you want to wear it out beforehand to a meal that has nothing to do with her.

if you want to wear something nice while out with your husband pay for it your flipping self!

and please link to it so we can all see it

Okay okay, I'm persuaded by you lot.

I adore my friend and if the consensus is that it would be rude to her to wear the dress, I won't wear it till the wedding.

Here is the dress, it's not traditionally 'bridesmaidy' as it's for a destination wedding somewhere hot.

Isn't it part of the wedding day to where something lovely and new? If you wore it beforehand you'd be standing in the church thinking 'the last time I wore this dress I was in [insert name of indian restaurant]'. Not a wedding memory I'd want if I were bridesmaid.
