I bought a mac 2 weeks ago and have just got it out of the wardrobe and it looks awful!I don't know what I saw in their mirror but now I know I'll never wear it.I have hunted high and low for the receipt and can't find it.Will they exchange it or is it destined for ebay?

Does it still have the label attached?

I think they will exchange if it does. (Mirrors in my my local h&m are very flattering, I am sure they make me look taller)

noddyholder · 15/09/2009 12:57

Me too it looks awful at home .I have taken the label off the plastic tie thing is still attached to the belt but doubt they would accept it.My fault completely I always keep receipts and worst of all i paid cash for it another rarity so can't even see it on my bank statement!

They are pretty good about exchanging things, esp if its current season. They can read the product details from the inside tag.

What you could do (bit sneaky but since you haven't worn it) is to go in, take a label off an identical mac and fix it to the tie and then they will exchange it for sure.

I do 90% of my shopping at H&M and often exhange things without receipts (DS1 has a habit of cutting up my receipts).

norfolklass · 15/09/2009 13:21

Wonder if its the same mac that I got 2 weeks ago as well...it looked great in the shop and then when I got home DH told me I looked like Mary Poppins-the worrying thing was I could sort of see his point lol!

I took mine back at the weekend and Id taken my label off as well...I did have my receipt though and they just refunded me.

In my experience H&M are pretty good with returns and although you probably won't get your money back without a receipt they should give you a gift card/credit note so at least you could get something else.

noddyholder · 15/09/2009 13:32

I think I will try to exchange it I am starting to hate it now.It would look good on someone but not me.I don't want a refund just something else

Giving this one last bump before bed for MN wisdom as my freind RL(!)says no way will they exchange it so looks like its been a waste of £

lou33 · 15/09/2009 22:47

i think most places now say they have a 28 day refund or exchange policy

try taking it in and saying to was bought for you as a gift but would like to exchange it fro something else as you have no receipt?

noddyholder · 15/09/2009 22:49

Thanks Lou v good idea!Why didn't i think of that?{smile}

just go on and throw themselves at their mercy, say you dont want your friend wasting good money and just want to swap it

did you pay by credit card?

Pannacotta · 16/09/2009 12:44

Noddy its really worth a try.
I take things back to H&M all the time and often dont have the receipts as they have been ripped up by the DSs and I have never been denied an exchange or gift card.

You could say it was a present or just lie and say your child ripped off the label/tore up the receipt.

As I explained the product code is on the care label inside, if its current season stock they will take it back, add a new label and re-sell it.

Ignore the email from Head Office.
Honestly I am a seasoned H&M shopper and they are one of the best shops in terms of returns.

lou33 · 16/09/2009 14:18

i worked for them donkeys years ago and they were always good about returns then too

if you paid by debit or credit card there will be proof on the statement, which is as agood as a receipt anyway

noddyholder · 16/09/2009 14:43

Well I phoned the shop and they said bring it in and its at their discretion so am going tomorrow as am ill today (for a change!)Th belt is still attached to the coat by 2 plastic tags so it is obviously inworn. It is only 2 weeks ago and was £50!so i can't afford to lose it.So tomorrow I am going in to beg I so want something that fits better. Will blame dp and his rubbish shopping.
