Must be waterproof, warm for standing around in playground (live in Scotland), pref detachable hood. Don't want to go down the Noth Face route iykwim. Something with a bit of style. Like padded ones but am size 16 and don't want to look like the Michelen Man! Any ideas?

many a poster has tried & failed to find the perfect school run coat

i have something from Lands End, but it's not very stylish

There must be something to save us from outdoorsy type coats I have a blue and black Tog affair which makes me look like I'm taking the children for a hike over the Brecons after schoo. Yes it keeps me bone dry but I look truly awful in it.

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 09/09/2009 19:42

what do you wear the rest of the time? Cant that do?

Bibithree · 09/09/2009 20:28

Well I'm not a coat person I'm v v hot and flustered like 99% of the time, so I either wear a cardi or if it's really really cold my work coat which isn't waterproof.

fleece
If its cold I wear fleece, hat, scarf n gloves Ideal for standing round in blustery playground.
What do youw wear walking? I think school runs have to be treated like a walk.

tk maxx have loads of nice winter coats...

i have a fab north face puffa thing for freezing weather, and a plain brown ladies craghopper outdoor waterproof jacket for wet weather...it is all one colour and has a nice shaped cut and a pully in bit at the waist, so whilst it is still essentially a walking type jacket, it is still quite stylish iykwim.

i am lusting after this

hth a bit.

Thanks all - I'm talking about buying a new coat for everything not just school run. That's just what gets used for most days. If only I had the money for one coat for school and another for everything else ...

The biker jacket is great chimchar, but only till about the end of October up here! Then I think I will have to go down the padded puffa route - thank you though.

I wear a MountainLife coat in winter. Not glamorous but the warmest cost I've ever had. Has a hood and is waterproof, too.
