If you wore a knee length dress what length should your coat be?

Basically that really.
Should the coat be the same length as the dress or could you get away with a shorter coat?
I want to get a knee or just under knee length dress to wear with long boots, but I dn't have a long coat and don't really want to have to buy one.

I was going to say that if it's shorter, it should only be a little bit shorter but I suppose it depends on the dress/coat - a fitted jacket works with a longer dress but I don't think a bulky one would..!

HTH!

Slightly shorter so it's obvious you are actually wearing something under the coat

Same length or longer.

So a bum length parka won't be a good look then .
Looks like I'll either have to not buy a dress or buy a longer coat.
Thanks

agree totally with madreinglese

either longer or much much shorter ie a jacket not a coat

I won't wear my knee-length coats over longer skirts

Could you just opt for a chunky cardi and/or nice scarf, or are you going somewhere subzero?
