All those that wear Boden - how old are you?

UndomesticHousewife · 05/09/2009 12:32

Though the stuff in Boden is nice enough (though way too expensive) it's not something I'd wear as I consider the look a bit old and I'm not that young at 34!
I don't know anyone who has the 'Boden look' except for one lady who is a bit older.

Please note I am not saying that anyone who wears Boden is old and frumpy nor am I putting down the style of those who wear it - there's another thread about a lady who is 60 and she was wondering if it was too young for her but I thought she'd be the perfect age (sorry) so that's why I was wondering really

The wearers in this house are 3, 5 & 38, none of them are me.

chattermouse · 05/09/2009 13:43

Am 32 and bought from Boden for first time this week. Got tops, cardis and hotchpotch dress. Usually buy from all over the high street. Love the Boden stuff so far. Is all timeless and i'll get lots of wear from it. At 5ft 9.5, i'll be mixing their tank tops and stripe cardigans with top shop cord and denim mini skirts to funk it up a bit. Will all look nice with both skinny and wide leg jeans too. Also got cloudspotter mac and is great.

Noah - i am the polar opposite to you. I love pattern!

sparklesandwater · 05/09/2009 13:46

my dc who are 11, 7, 4, 3 and 10 mths wear mini boden

and i have some bits myself....i'm 32...but just casual bits like denim skirts and a couple of t-shirts

traceybath · 05/09/2009 13:50

Like many others I have the odd bit from boden as well as many other shops.

I quite liked the straight leg jeans but have gone off marthas as they seem to be bigger in the thigh and not sure about the flaps on pockets.

Oh no! Since when did Martha's have flaps? I need to replace mine, and I'm really unsure about the flaps on the pockets too

MadameCastafiore · 05/09/2009 14:31

I am 34 - also wear lots of Crew Co, All Saints, Plumo, Toast not frumpy at all!

traceybath · 05/09/2009 14:38

Not sure since when marthas have flaps on rear pockets but i wish they didn't.

Also i tried on my usual size and they seemed bigger in thights and lower legs unless mine have shrunk. Most odd.

38- mostly buy bits, not an outfit. The few things I have are complimented lots- a yellow coat (though have been joked about it being a safety jacket but that was blokes), a white blouse which looks plain but on closer inspection has pretty flowers along buttons. A dress I wore to work twice which is plain black but drew comments from male and females both times. And best of all a yellow cardigan with huge buttons which had my boss compliment me. So mostly the stuff I buy is work. Sitting here at home am wearing pineapple trackie bottoms and a millets sweater- am a slob. I buy from loads of places like others.I have bought one or two things boden full price but now i have found mumsnet who know how to use all the best discount bargain options!

MaggieVirgo · 05/09/2009 15:10

I don't think I have a boden body. I'm small. Jonnie has obviously never MET a woman under 5 foot 6.

I don't know how anybody could wear their stuff if they were my height (five 2)

Some of it's nice, 'til you read the price!!

MaggieVirgo · 05/09/2009 15:14

Barbarakingstanding, you forgetting your age made me laugh, as my birthday is in May, and every new year, I mentally adjust my new age in my head, even though there's still a few months to go. So this january, I thought, right, I'm 39 now give or take... and thought no more of it. Then on the eve of my birthday, my mother said to me, this time 39 years ago I was on my way to the hospital. I corrected her and said, "you mean this time 40 years ago". She said, no, 39. Then I had a mental re-callibration and realised she was right. Weird senior moment.

BitOfFun · 05/09/2009 15:14

I just popped my boden cherry thanks to another thread...but it was for children's clothes: dd2(9) is modelling her birthday dress on my profile, it arrived this morning

Too pricey to spend on myself though, but I will definitely buy the odd special thing for dd2 there. Dd1 is a bit old at 13- she is far too much of a fashionista these days!

MaggieVirgo · 05/09/2009 15:16

aw, room to grow!! you're a shopper after my own heart. Your daughter is beeeeeeyoootiful.

I'm 42 and have some Boden stuff. I particularly like their massive shed sales when you can get dresses for £20. I have bought a lot of stuff for my boys in the sale. I hope I don't go out in Boden top to toe. I'm more a white stuff girl, really.

BerylCole · 05/09/2009 16:23

I bought a Boden dress once and I felt like a total frump every time I put it on. The material was so heavy. I felt aged. I am 32.

Wuxiapian · 05/09/2009 16:43

I love Boden - have lots of it - mainly clothing, but a couple footwear purchases, too.

I'm 31.

joliejolie · 05/09/2009 18:46

I wear loads of Boden and I am 40.

Mimi1977 · 05/09/2009 18:47

I'm 31 and have loved Boden stuff for years. I don't find it at all frumpy. I guess some stuff can be but the basics are brilliant and a lot is actually a reflection of what is on the high street, for example the boyfriend cardi - Zara have some in (half the price though!) and the black shift dress, well there is something exactly the same for twice as much in Jigsaw.

I just find it great for everyday wear as it is really good quality and doesn't fall apart after one season and you can bung most of it in the washer which is great when you get covered in banana, sick and other stuff children daube you in!!

LetThemEatCake · 05/09/2009 19:23

yep, just bought my first Boden last week - the knitted Henley dress in black here Will be bfing this winter and wanted warm dress with access to boobs, so it seemed to fit the bill. Will be wearing with chunky boots though, no ballet flats!!! (is that okay?? redeeming??)

Will be 37 this December and USUALLY wear See by Chloe, Marc by Marc Jacobs, By Malene Birger, Day birger etc etc ... plus plenty of Primark, of course!!!

Don't like Boden prints ... like a poor man's Orla Kiely and JUST as easily identifiable

MayorNaze · 05/09/2009 19:26

do i win? am 28!!

but only have one casual dress and my v lush boots.

owuld buy more but it is usually too expensive, even in the sale (boots were big big treat)

happilyeverafter · 05/09/2009 19:36

DD and I wear a fair bit, she's two and I'm 27.

I love the kids stuff for DD and I like the plain tops and knitwear for me but have a couple of knitted dresses too.

PutDown · 05/09/2009 19:43

Am 42 and wear Boden cardigans, tunics and plain tops.
Again, nothing that screams Boden.Sent a knitted dress back this year as was truly frumpy on me.
Also wear
White Stuff
Fat Face
Noa Noa
Avoca
Great Plains
Kew
New Look
Autograph
Topshop
Primark.
Some Boden stuff is frumpy, especially as at 5ft 3 alot of the dresses are too long.
Have some wideleg trousers in various fabrics from there that are really flattering though.
