I know there is a lot of debate about Boden on here. What about Joules?
Good or bad?

In the sale its good value - I have a swimming costume and a jacket and its very well made and comes beautifully wrapped...it has all kept its shape through lots of washing too.

I thought the latest catalogue was awful though.

Clary · 01/09/2009 21:36

I admired a woman's skirt in the summer and it was by Joules.

I looked online but it was sold out

I got some pink cut-offs in the sale tho - they are nice but a silly colour and don't fit well that on my waist (but then trousers rarely do).

maggieleo I had spotted that skirt and liked it.

(I used to lurrrve the lamby fleeces from Boden )

Their autumn catalogue is pretty bad tbh. Not as bad as the autumn Boden catalogue though.

giantkatestacks · 01/09/2009 21:39

Yes agree - all that shit about blackberries...get a grip...

fishie · 01/09/2009 21:43

their stuff is absolutely massive in arse and small in bust. which i am not.

it is a shame because i rather hanker after the tweed jacket

IdontMN2makecopyforlazyjournos · 01/09/2009 21:45

Massive in arse and small in bust. Probably why it fits me then.

giantkatestacks · 01/09/2009 21:47

Yep am in the Massive Arse Small Bust club as well. It works particularly well for the aforementioned tankini I bought in the sale.

NigellaTufnel · 01/09/2009 21:50

The wellie socks are great!

Clary · 01/09/2009 21:53

ahh massive arse small bust you say?

Now I understand why trews don't fit! (and will also avoid any top-half clothing then)

Heated · 01/09/2009 21:53

I'm trying to like it but failing. We're out in the sticks and the local high street can be a sea of Joules gilets, stripes and jeans just that bit too short at the ankle.

IdontMN2makecopyforlazyjournos · 01/09/2009 21:55

Small waist too. I haven't tried their trousers. Just dresses of the wrap variety - which I can pull tight around disproportionately small waist.

My vitals are ridiculous - five foot nine, bust 35, waist 29.5 (sounding good so far not?), hips - 45 . I think lipo is the only answer.

gatheringstones · 01/09/2009 21:56

i think the mum in tommy zoom wears that blue stripey joules skirt with pleats and flouncy inserts.

i like their kids t shirts but echo others' logo hatred it's all a bit sloany pony innit?
each to their own though. bit more honest about itself than boden (sloany in denial, can just about find notting hill on a map so that passes for 'trendy')

tulpe · 01/09/2009 22:08

aha.....small of norkage but mahoosive of arse......clearly I need to forsake all other clothing retailers and shop at Joules

IdontMN2makecopyforlazyjournos · 01/09/2009 22:09

I have that skirt but in plain navy. It is truly lovely, honestly.

DS is terrifed of Polluto in Tommy Zoom - he looks like Tony Blair, I think.

mooseloose · 01/09/2009 22:13

I love their wellies too! I bought a gorgeous bikini in the sale - fits really well and makes me look slim!

gatheringstones · 01/09/2009 22:16

wasn't knocking skirt. have considered it myself but not sure i'm up to all that swishy fabric.

and now i think about it i think i mean 'grandpa in my pocket' not tommy zoom.

cherryblossoms · 01/09/2009 22:27

The massive in arse, small in nork comment is spot on. I find it squeezes and flaps in the wrong places.

BUT I bought the Maude dress this summer and have been raving about it on here at every opportunity. As I keep telling anyone who will listen - strangers complimented me on my lovely dress - young persons stopped me and begged to know where it was from.

And I was very shifty because ... I'm just not quite sure how I feel about owning something from Joules.

tulpe · 01/09/2009 23:37

was the Maude dress the bright blue with white flowers? If so, tis lovely and would like to congratulate you on your sartorial wisdom in purchasing said item

And I am not at all jealous............

MorrisZapp · 02/09/2009 12:51

I like Joules, though their catalogue does err on the side of fancy dress.

I bought a fab brown 'gilet' (I call this garment a bodywarmer in real life) from the St Andrews shop at the weekend.

Now am hoping it gets cold so I can wear it!

Have a nice cosy hoodie from them too.

They also have a bit of an ebay factor, ie when you're bored with your stuff it sells really well on ebay.

They don't have as many promotions and discounts as Boden but arguably som eof the stuff is a bit cheaper anyway.
