Help me find my wedding dress...non traditional but fabulous frock recommendations

So I am getting married next year and definitely not wearing the traditional type of gown for various reasons I won't go into. I just want a fabulous, gorgeous dress that will make everyone go 'oooh!' but that I can still move around in and party in later on.

Have maximum £300 to spend, but need inspiration...I've looked at Monsoon and Coast already. Who else does amazing dresses that I can perv over? Any style, any colour.

TIA

What about a bridesmaids dress? Loads of colour choices and some quite cool styles now

Or Karen Millen, House of Fraser etc.

Bridesmaids' dresses are good - I like Jasmine Bridal's range, although there are no prices on their site that I could find.

Am possibly a bit well-padded for Karen Millen Not massive, but they always seem to be for stick-thin girls and I'm a short size 12 with hips and tits.

Net a Porter

Laura Ashley sometimes have some surprisingly ncie things too - their Vintage re-issues are pretty cool [rummages]
saw this and this in real life yesterday and they are luscious - lovely fabrics, beautifully made. Better than Monsson IMO.

MrsBadger · 31/08/2009 16:04

oh Watters have ace bridesmaid things too

with bridesmaid dresses you usually have to go to a bridal shop who will tel you the price they cahrge for it.

maize · 31/08/2009 16:08

IME bridesmaids dresses seem to be between £125-200.

Dessy do lovely bridesmaids dresses too.

I love this site, where you can design your own dress and they make it - www.styleshake.com. They have a wedding section and have silk in lovely colours. Addictive even if you don't buy anything.

cyteen · 31/08/2009 22:36

Hehe, I love Styleshake too Have only just discovered it so might order something a bit more everyday and see what the workmanship and fit is like...

What colour and length?

cyteen · 31/08/2009 22:40

Umm, I look good in strong dark colours, so I was thinking probably a nice midnight blue or similar...white/cream/gold all make me look ill.

Length I am easy about; I like the extra fabulousness of the full length skirt (when do you ever get to wear a proper gown the rest of the time?), but am also tempted by a knee length as it will be more practical for our very informal meal+party, and also because my calves are much the best part of my body

I always forget about LK Bennett (on more of an H&M budget usually )- that dress is lovely.

Sounds to me like going fifties would be good with your figure. What about Dolly Dagger stuff with a massive net petticoat?

I love the even more va va voom stuff on the second page but you'd probably only be able to stand still with one foot in front of the other while wearing them

Heated · 31/08/2009 22:59

dramatic

Heated · 31/08/2009 23:00

I'm off to bed but will drop by tomorrow to see if you've found 'the one'!

Heated · 01/09/2009 22:37

any luck?

cyteen · 02/09/2009 11:19

I think I'm starting to see why people go for the white dress - there's too much choice otherwise! I've seen about 5 that I really love Must - restrain - urge - to - shop.
