Bargins to look out for in NYC?

Off to New York in a few weeks for our honeymoon, was thinking about getting a pair of cons to take with me - but then thought they would probably be cheaper over there? Also thinking UGG boots/MAC make-up - any other suggestions?

Have always fancied a pair of decent jeans - 7 for all mankind type thing but at 5"1 and a size 12 its unlikely I'll be able to find a pair to fit

Definitely jeans...7FAM make a 'petite' jean now for shorter legs. Try Bloomingdales and Barneys for huge selections. Barneys girls in particular are extremely helpful (and honest).

Saks 5th Avenue is also good for jeans shopping. If you like labels like Theory, Juicy or DKNY, they are also cheaper in the US.

Ugg are from Aus so may not be cheaper

look carefully at web prices and exchange rates and only buy if less than you can get them here.

Whats the cheapest you have seen them over here Mrs B? Friend reckoned she had found some £50 but I'm not convinced....

have never looked - cannot reconcile suede boots with rainy winters...

Forever 21 is a great shop. My dd and I always find great things in there. Barneys is a must visit too, though it is really expensive.

Definitely get your Uggs there because they are less in US dollars and they have so much choice (way more than we have here). I just bought these in the UK for £150!!! They sell for $140 in the US, which is still only £85 or so with the current exchange rate.
They are always cheaper in the US. A few years ago when the exchange rate was good, I bought a pair of Uggs for £60.

re the jeans, if I remember correctly there's a Levi store around 5th Avenue somewhere that will measure you and custom make jeans to fit.

Actually Ugg Australia is an American brand...madness!

Century 21 is a good idea although requires alot of time to rummage - there is a special C21 shoe store as well.

Abercrombie is heaps cheaper if you like it.

Don't know if they have Nordstrom in NYC; may be worth a trip to Jersey or somewhere else outside Manhattan for jeans; look out for sale shops where they sell merchandise from the big dept stores, like Nordstrom Rack, where my DD got Uggs for $40. There are also places like TJMaxx and Filene's Basement where you can find good brands for far less, if you don't mind rolling up your sleeves and really looking. But the department stores have a better size selection and customer service.

If you have time, check out Woodbury Common. It's fantastic.

Would second Woodbury Common, it's great, super bargains. You can catch a bus from the Port Authority bus station. Re the timescale, it depends how much you really want a half price Coach bag!!

Second the canal street suggestion - I got a stunning bag there, really good quality.

My friend says take hardly any clothes with you so you have plenty of suitcase space for your purchases

OP, Have you warned your husband-to-be that you intend to spend hours traipsing around the shops looking for clothes? Is that how he wants to spend his honeymoon?

Thats why I'm not fussed about the woodbury common thing - would quite like a pair of Uggs, some jeans and some make-up, but I can shop anytime, looking forward to seeing the sights and stuff.
