what length to hem jeans?

I have two pairs of jeans that need hemming and would like them to magically adjust depending on the height of the heel I'm wearing. I can't seem to find a Hogwarts trained tailor though, so what should I do?

One is bog standard boot cut and the other is the high waisted jeans from Gap from a couple of years back that I bought and completely forgot about due to their needing to be hemmed.

i think hemming jeans is dodgy personally. It just doesn't look right unless done professionally

I won't do it myself, trust me! She needs to know how long I want them though.

the back of the hem should by just above the floor when wearing the highest shoes you will wear with them. what is the leg like on the high waist pair - wide/straight?

It's not a bad idea to designate one pair as 'high heels' jeans - although I actually find mine can still be worn with lower heels. Depends how bothered you are by grubby hems - I don't find it a huge deal as jeans are casual anyway, and mine are usually dark (slattern).

yep

I have boots-only jeans and flats-only jeans

(actually I buy cheap jeans so they usu start off long and get shorter)

JJ · 26/08/2009 20:56

The high waist pair are straight legged and, upon closer inspection, a cotton/linen mix. So those will be for higher heels as most of my sandals have those or are wedges. The regular pair will be for boots (mine have shorter heels).

Know what you mean, OurLady - my current favourite pair have the hems ripped off from walking on them.

Thanks! This was harder for me to figure out than it should have been; must have some sort of brain cloud.

Oops - I meant, thanks for letting me know what you do. I thought I was missing something obvious.

Hemming jeans like a pro. This works, is easy, and (if you don't cut the fabric) is completely reversable.

Looks interesting, but I am afraid I would mess it up somehow. I'm not the world's best seamstress (understatement).
