Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if there are any make up artists out there who can share some tips with me. I want to train to become a make up artist but the courses are so expensive...I don't know where to start. I would like to find someone who would train me up for a fee or let me help and get some work experience that way. I am willing to work for free! If anyone has any advice to share please come forward

contact your local college, many beauty courses run night classes where you can just pick and choose the area you want to learn. Most courses offer free classes or at the very min a fee to enroll.

I dont know where you live but you could contact local tv and magazines, some take on work experience as long as you can give up at least 10 hours per week.

I did my course through full time college, but the best experience i got was working on a makeup counter doing real customers.

How do I go about applying for a counter position in a retail store?

I am very good at applying my own make up and make up on others. I was offered to do an NVQ in Beauty Therapy in London College of Beauty Therapy but I don't want to wax legs lol just want to focus on the make up alone. I might just make myself really pretty one day and go and try my luck on the counters, speaking to the Managers

Is that your only job? And how long did it take you to get clients and start getting paid

Does it pay well? I am 26 and went to university and completed a degree in Criminology and only last year I realized that that is what I want to do. I will have to find a cheap course or get some work experience.

depends what you call well paid working on the counters is basic, but commision makes up for it if you work hard and are a good seller.

I used to do bridal work and for that you can charge a fair bit, fashion shows were good pay too.
