Just been quoted £480 for top and bottom at my dentist ( private only.)

They make trays/gum shields for your mouth, then you use the bleach at home for as long as you need until you get the colour you want.

anyone tried this?

Its just like a piece of un-sticky selotape, you put it on your teeth and thenfold it behing IYKWIM. They should work if your teeth are uneven, you only wear them for 30 mins, so they arent going to fall off.

I'm tempted by these strips too.

Can I just ask, are the effects temporary i.e. a few days or do they last longer?

geordieminx · 25/08/2009 17:00

between 9 and 18 months, depending on whether you smoke 40 woodbines, and drink 15 cups of coff a day or not

geordieminx · 25/08/2009 17:16

If you havop pictir te a look at my profile picture is about 3 months post whitening, further down is "before". Also - I smoke about 5 a day

geordieminx · 25/08/2009 17:17

Ok that makes no sense whatsoever - have a look at my profile is what is meant to say

BunnyLebowski · 25/08/2009 17:23

Wow yeah I can really see the difference!

I don't smoke but do love my tea (like the good Irish lassie I am) and my red wine.

Will definitely buy some. Thanks minxie!

I think the standard fee for teeth whitening and teeth bleaching procedures is about $500 in most cases. Costs can vary depending upon the area of the country you live in and the type of whitening treatment you undergo. Its better to consider using an all natural teeth whitening products which are relatively cheap and works wonders.

alecia- I have had a look at the link, but don't fancy swallowing hydrogen peroxide thanks!

Have pretty much decided to go ahead with the dentist. My teeth are quite a dark shade, even though I don't drink, smoke or have tea or coffee ( for other health reasons.)

I can't see how the strips really get to the neck /base of the teeth, or work if your teeth are a bit crossed, as a couple of mine are.

At the dentists, you go back every couple of weeks for check ups for sensivity, to see how much longer you need to carry on, and the mouth trays are made to measure from impressions to stop leakage and to get a perfect fit. They also control the amount of belach in the gel - it's stronger than what you can but over the counter in products but not so strong it causes damage to gums or enamel.

I went the DIY(ish) route. I purchased a custom fit tray kit off eBay.
They send a kit for you to take your own impressions (plenty of tutorials on YouTube) which you post back and then within a couple of weeks you receive the trays. I then purchased Philips Zoom DayWhite 14% also off eBay and used it for an hour a day and within a couple of weeks my teeth were nice and white. Total cost was around £100.
