Never used NEXT online before says i have £300 credit.... just put my order through... not payed anything.. really confused!

Thats it really.

Just selected my sons winter wardrobe.
Went to register.
And i select delivery time etc.
Then it said i had £300 credit?
Order has been put through but wont let me pay. Not that i was planninng to complete the transaction until tomo as i haven't payed the money into my account yet, planning
to do that before work tomo and just complete tranaction when i got home.

Why have they given me so much credit without any bank details.. um a little worried!

Just checked my e-mail says my order has been sent through and will arrive on Monday, and that i currently owe them £0....?

What is going on? Surely its a little trusting for them to give me so much credit on the basis of an e-mail adress, home address and phone number??

Next bill you monthly - you'll get a statement in a couple of weeks, but they won't let you pay before that.

The £300 is what you can spend now and pay off monthly, should you choose to do so. Apparently I can buy about 3 squillion quid's worth of stuff from them now, but I always pay in full as soon as I can .

it is a bit odd - unlike most other companies, you don't pay until after delivery. I don't like it as I end up forgetting to pay - not good for credit rating

Well, they told me to piss off and pay before it's delivered as I can't have an account, it must be from the last time (I did the same as you purlease).

I just tried this, I've tried to get a next account before and they always tell me to piss off too, well not in so many words
Was planning on getting DD's uniform from next, so just went through ordered it all and yes, no payment necessary and apparently £250 credit still available to me

Tis V odd indeed, nobody else on the planet will give me credit atm - my rating is awful. And when I've gone through and actually asked for an account they say no!

Agree v much, debt very baaaad! and reason why my rating is apalling. Intend on paying next next week (strange sentence!) Happy to be able to get uniform now though, was worried it would all be sold out when I finally had to money to go and get it.

That £250 is sitting there taunting me now though. Repeats to self..I do not need to buy anything else from next, I will not spend that credit!

Don't. That's how they make their money, interest, late payment charges etc. Bastards!! Irresponsible lending IMO, they don't know your financial circumstances, they shouldn't be offering credit willy nilly, it's against the consumer credit act.

yep they basically force you to have a credit account with them. Your previous purchases dont show up until the billing month so you dont know how much youve spent. I think I've got £500 credit with them, so it could be dangerous

I don't see the problem. They send you an email with your order so you can keep a tally of your bill, then pay it in full next month. It's only a problem if you keep spending. Yes it's crap that you can't just buy online and have to have an account but don't buy online if it's a problem. It's stupidly easy to do things through Next and their delivery is great. Just pay in full.

Make sure that you tell them you don't want the catalogue, otherwise they will keep sending it and then charging you for it.

It is very irresponsible lending. I don't like having any type of credit and haven't had a credit card for 4 years as i am crap with credit.

I had debt collectors ringing me up over a newlook card i forgot to pay (left uni house and didn't the get bills, sort of forgot about it) I also managed to run up £1000 on a credit card whilst at uni! So this £300 available to me makes me uneasy!

On the plus side, will i be able to have a browsing slot for the Next online sale now i have an account?

Bran I chose to pay p&p (did look on mn for a free P&P code, didn't work!) over the catalogue+free P&P as didn't want to pay for something i can see on the computer for free and had a feeling they'd keep sending it to me!

There's something called the Statute of Limitations that time barrs comapnies chasing you for money after 6 years, this means if you have had no contact with them/have not agreed to pay anything for 6 years they legally can't get the money off you. be careful though, if you agree to pay them 1p then the 6 years starts all over again.

I recently ordered something from Next and like you was most confused at not having to pay (there and then, I mean). It's not made at all obvious that you are opening an account with them. I didn't want a bloody account I just wanted a pair of sandals for dd. In the end they didn't fit so got sent back - I think I had a small delivery charge to pay - which I did the minute I got the bill through. I have no intention of buying on-line from them again because of this - it really rankled that the website is clearly deliberately set up so that you end up untentionally opening an account. I'm not some financially illiterate bozo - but still ended up doing this. Which makes me feel sympathy for those who are financially illiterate bozos and at Next for their blatant attempt to exploit them.

You see, the problems with things like this is that the Consumer Credit Act states that Next should have a contract with someone they are given credit too, as you don't actually sign anything then there's no contract, therefore if they run after you with a bill it's in breach of the Act. Very naughty!!

Yes Buffy's right actually, by not making you sign a contract next are actually in breach of the bill, and technically they can't make you pay, if you haven't signed a contract to say you will!
A lot of catalogues fell foul of this in the last few years and as far as I know are now all V vigilant in making people sign contracts. amazing that Next are doing this really.

I applied for a credit card online, but they sent me a letter and told me to sign the credit agreement before I could use the card.

Buffy* Thank you for the info but the newlook card was many years ago and i think i only had about £100 outstanding (with charges etc.) So was easy to clear. And payed off the credit card in one foul swoop with part of a bursary from my course (thank god). But learnt my lesson and have kept far away from credit.

Besides paying insurance monthly by direct debit but this is a fixed (small) amount.

I also had no idea that by registering i would be effectively opening an account. Sneaky, sneaky.

I would like a next credit account but the option isn't at the checkout to add to account, anyone know why?!
