Boob Tubes and strapless dresses - am I missing something here?

. Over the past few days I have seen several women wearing boob tube type tops or strapless dresses - with a bra which has straps! is this a new fashion trend I have missed? Surely the point of it being strapless is exactly that , no straps. if someone doesn't feel confident enough to wear it without a bra then buy a top with straps or sleeves.
One woman had a gorgeous strapless dress on at wedding we saw while waiting for the lgiths to change and it was balck and gold coloured and she had a white bra on under it, with straps on show

NO! I refuse to believe you Salty!

whispers Really?

I think those clear plastic ones are bad enough but white???

bethoo · 14/08/2009 11:39

boob tubes are only for the flat/small chested personally unless you want to look like a monoboob

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 14/08/2009 11:40

Oh Lordy, that sounds truly awful. I think its people who are going to wear what is in fashion come what may, whether they have the right underwear or not!

Saltire · 14/08/2009 11:41

Well I wouldn't wear them, but then I am a 38d. But straps is just a no-no.

Saltire even if it is th height of fashion I shan't be wearing one!
I would love a strapless dress but being larg of nork I just cannot go braless.

60foot - but then you would wear a top that covered your bra straps wouldn't you? like I would, or most women would.

I wear boob tubes and strapless things, but then I am fairy small of boob! I wouldn't wear them with bra straps though. (Unless it was around my house perhaps)

I'm getting married in a strapless dress, need to wear a strapless bra just to fill out my non-existant boobs

Saltire · 14/08/2009 12:14

wino - yes but strapless bras under strapless tops are fine. Its the boob tube in bright red with black bra underneath and bra straps over the shoulders I don't get

Sorry, I thought you meant you shouldn't wear a bra at all with strapless

WinomoreTheFruitbat · 14/08/2009 12:39

I feel much better now

I've worn boob tube tops (not the tight ones the summery flowing kinda things ) but have fairly big boobs and don;t want to risk ds pulling it down but would never wear a bra with it

I have however worn a matching bikini top...is this as bad

missmelly · 14/08/2009 13:23

this is a pet peeve of mine too.. it really looks rubbish!

BitOfFun · 14/08/2009 13:41

At a wedding?

How tacky!

I could sort of imagine a Carrie Bradshaw-type carrying this sort of look off on a casual basis (but with a pretty and usual coloured bra), but even she wouldn't flash white bra straps at a formal event...why would you, when there are so many other, nicer things you could turn up in?

DailyMailCanLickMyBalls · 14/08/2009 13:42

It's a bad look. If someone needs some extra support or control (and most of us do) then boobtubes etc should be worn with a strapless bra. Those bras with the 'clear' straps look just odd - they catch the light really obviously, and you'd have to be 10 metres away to not notice them. Tacky looking.
