What kind of shoes do your DCs wear to pre-school?

My DD1 starts pre-pre-school on tuesday and she has her white silvery fitted shoes, but they are nearing the end of their life anyway.

I am thinking of getting her some new ones, but what would be the most appropriate for nursery? Converse? Something easier to get on off? Proper black patents shoes? Cheap? Expensive?

P.S she has narrow feet so things like 'Doodles' are very often too wide (and the only ones I've seen seem to be bloody canvass so don't like them anyway)

Something she can take off and put on by herself, and that you aren't going to care about when they get wet/muddy/painty/scuffed.

get her some little trainers with velcro so she can take them on/off herself and they will last because most of them you can wash uin the machine

DS3 has been in his sandals - robust Ricosta ones. When it gets colder, he will be in whatever shoes I have bought for him. I only have boys and they just have shoes - i.e. not "best" and everyday.

has anyone seen nice trainers? Not all white and pale pink? Prefer something a bit more funky....

a friend of mine advised doodles...ideal imo as can be washed after each session (anything like my dd she comes home caked in mud) and easy to put on/off.

Both dd and ds go in sandals or trainers or dd wears lelli kellies..anything everyday really, not best and what can be put on/off easily.

cheap and comfortable. they will get lost/painted/peeed on

never EVER put on decent/favourite/expensive clothes/shoes to nursery. they will get ruined, you will complain, the staff will hate you

Check what policy the preschool might have about shoes. They may even be prescriptive and insist on plimsoles/something else in particular.

like Tommy dd just has shoes, wellies and sandals - not trainers / party shoes / best shoes / everyday shoes etc

so if it's hot she goes in sandals, if not she goes in shoes

most things come off leather (NB if you have nubuck then wax them before the first wear and regularly thereafter)

At ds1's pre-school they have to take off their outdoor shoes upon arrival and put on crocs (or plimsolls, but everyone wears crocs in practice). They also have to have a pair of plimsolls for PE.

Well we have been asked to get her black plimsolls, maybe she is to wear these when she's there (that would make sense, because I must admit to have been wondering why she needs them!)

Trust me I am not a conpetitive mummy - no intention of starting a 'school run dress' thread!

agree with Tommy and Mrs Badger, DS2 and 3 (who is starting nursery in Sept) just have shoes, which they wear for everything if they get dirty they get cleaned same with the clothes. DS2 goes to nursery four mornings a week so its important to me he's comfortable more than anything else.

when dd1 started her nursery, i bought her leather shoes from Clarks with velcro straps.

My dd's pre-school won't allow anything with laces (so they don't have to be constantly doing them up; fair enough).

I'm afraid it's croc city for the under-fives round here, and even though I loathe them I have cracked and joined in (though mine were two quid from Primark). They are hideous, but SO handy for pre-school; if they get covered with paint you can stick them under the tap, if they get wet you can dry them off with a paper towel. And they don't need any adult help with getting them on and off.

I comfort myself that they are really only a style crime for the over-fives, though I admit to still feeling a leeeetle embarrassed...

Mine wears crocs too - she loves them and they are very practical.

I phoned a mum I kind of know, and asked her. She told me that she will wear the black plimsolls whilst at nursery (because of their being carpet everywhere) and then change them to go outside. Honestly, why they couldn't enclose that information with the 'welcome pack' I don't know!

Anyway, she has her plimsolls and bag, so we are all set!

There are loads and loads of rules (for parents) at my dd's pre-school - but they don't tell you only of them before you start, you just realise you've broken one when the headteacher tuts disapprovingly at you
