What on earth is wrong with wearing black boots and jeans? Is it just limited to boots? Are other black shoes and jeans a fashion faux pas?

I just don't get it.

Nothing is wrong with jeans and black boots! Some people like to have rules that they stick to and some people just wear what they like.

GrapefruitMoon · 29/07/2009 10:35

My issue with this rule is what do you wear if you are wearing a black top with jeans? Or have a black coat.

Brown/tan would look far worse imo.

I think some people think it looks a bit "mumsy" (but think the most anti-black boots poster has left anyway!)

muffle · 29/07/2009 10:38

"Mumsiness" factor depends on the boots surely? I wear black DMs (not the original lace-ups, modern women's zip-up ones) with jeans and I like that look.

Kind of pointy-toed low-heeled Next black boots might look a bit mumsy - but they do anyway IMO

pleasechange · 29/07/2009 10:39

I personally don't wear black boots (or shoes!) with jeans, or a black coat with jeans come to that. But agree there's no rules and if you can make it look ok then go for it!

cornsillk · 29/07/2009 10:40

Depends on the style of the boots and colour of the jeans as well. Dark jeans look okay with black boots but light coloured jeans can look a bit wrong.

Fly London boots look nice with jeans as well.

TrillianAstra · 29/07/2009 10:45

Depends on both the boots and the jeans.

Jeans tucked into black leather boots is a bit early 00s.

Ignore the stupid 'rules', if it looks good then go for it and flout the rules.

snowmummy · 29/07/2009 10:56

I've been following some of these threads and I still don't get it! Surely something like these www.amazon.co.uk/Fly-London-Womens-Mol/dp/B001AE7PSK in black with dark blue skinnies would look good.

I can understand that frumpy black ankle boots with jeans aren't going to look good but surely that goes for any frumpy boot of any colour.

So, is it not about the style of boot rather than just the colour??

tinseltot · 29/07/2009 11:11

I think its just a bit if a 'tired' look, you know, it been done to death and is perhaps considered lazy styling? The main thing for me is that black high heel boots full stop look a bit whorish imho. i always buy boots in colours other than black - unless i am buying flat boots then i think that any colour is fine!

But as someone said above, if you feel happy in your boots/jeans combo and you think it suits you then sod what anyone else thinks and wear it.

snowmummy · 29/07/2009 11:13

So, are brown boots and jeans considered OK then?

brimfull · 29/07/2009 11:17

i think biker boots or dms look fine with jeans

agree that black dressy style boots look bad with jeans

tinseltot · 29/07/2009 11:27

I would say that brown are ok yeah! Though if they end half way up your thighs then that would be a bad look!

muffle · 29/07/2009 11:27

I also like brown boots with jeans. I don't really mind about the colour, my rule is more that chunky/flat boots go with jeans. I have a friend who wears red cowboy boots with jeans which you would have thought would be naff but actually looks great.

snowmummy · 29/07/2009 11:35

Oh good because I have the fly london mol in brown and I love them with both skinny jeans and skirts!!

bleh · 29/07/2009 12:08

Thank you for clearing that up. I was posing it as a general query (I don't really wear jeans anymore; it just feels wrong for me).

I have a plain black heeled calvin Klein boots with a zip which I have been wearing for years with tight skinnies in the winter and they always look great!I am getting them re heeled and soled and plan to wear them this year.It def depends on the boots

cocolepew · 29/07/2009 12:16

Smooth black boots with a little heel and too short bootleg jeans don't look good, but not everybody dresses the same. I wear Fly Mes boots in black because I'm a rock chick I like that look. If you like it wear it.

JackieNo · 29/07/2009 12:24

I'd never heard of this 'rule' before seeing it on here. Wear what you like, I say .

bleh · 29/07/2009 12:26

So that's it. This "rule" is redundant. Nobody gets it and nobody has defended it. [gavel]

Ooh muffle have your got these boots - I love them and have them in red (3 years old) and brown (2 years old) and would like them in black for my birthday in the autumn (upside of horrid autumn birthday is new a/w clothes. I am much more a boots and jumpers person than a sundress person).

muffle · 29/07/2009 12:56

Yes those are my boots! What great taste you have

cornsillk · 29/07/2009 13:02

I had 2 pairs of those boots - got them really cheap in M and M sports about 2 years ago - were about £29.99 I think! Bargainous!

snowmummy · 29/07/2009 13:05

I think Noddy has cleared this up with the link to the pic of Kate Moss
