What to wear to York Races on Saturday? Help needed please!

I am going to York Racecourse for a hen do on Saturday. Have been invited as a plus one and now really have no clue what to wear plus can not question what others are wearing.

I am 5'8" and a size 10-12. Have quite stretch marky boobs so not too plunging plus am lily white and rubbish at fake tan so please take that into account too! Have got brown shoulder length hair that can be either straight or curly, green eyes and am quite pale.

Any suggestions would be fab as i am totally and utterly stuck. I know we are then going into York to a restaurant in the evening.

Well that is what I was seriously hoping for. I am normally (i think) quite a good dresser, but this one I can not sort for some reason. Just have no idea where to gauge it. I have thought Coast dress with heels but then feel like I am goign to a wedding! PLus if weather is the same as now will shiver all day like an eejit. Or high waisted Black trousers and heels with tucked in blouse...but will that look too officey?

Oh bloody hell this is stressful.

When I went on a similar do I wore a patterned green and black tunic top and black leggings with small heels and a nice bag.

It seemed to hit the middle ground between over dressed wedding attire and the jeans and tshirt brigade (lots of people there dressed like that believe it or not). Blouse and trousers will definitely look officey.

Can you ask other people on the hen night what they are wearing and go for something similar?

Well I was at the races last night wearing jeans and converse. There were also ladies in full length maxi dresses and wedges. But thankfully no fascinators.

There are no rules for the races, but I would say for a hen do, don't wear heels you will be standing around at the races for ages.

I would either go dress or trousers and top, but I think your idea does sound a bit officey.

Totally agree that you need something comfy on your feet - there is literally nowhere to sit down at the races in York, there will be loads of girls carrying their shoes (and very drunk). As it is the music showcase meeting it will be less formal than say the Ebor Meeting and there will not be a lot of hats. A pretty hair slide or similar might be nice. I think trousers would be fine but perhaps with a pretty top. The racecourse can be a windy spot even when it is a warm day so you may want a cardi/shrug/wrap. There will be loads of girls there who look ghastly and will be dressed at 2pm for going on to the clubs in the evening. Loads of flesh and tarty stuff I'm afraid as a lot of girls go to cop on. Also it depends if you are going into the County Stand as it is warmer and smarter in there. But if you are in the Grandstand and Paddock it is mainly outside.
Restaurants in York are pretty casual in the main so anything goes really.
I usually go in a linen summer dress with a shrug, small fascinator/slide thing in hair and sandals with kitten heels or similar (but I am 53!). There will be all sorts of outfits there just get some Champers down you and relax. Hope this helps!

I'm going to Newcastle races on saturday with a group of girls, only one of whom i know, so can totally sympathise!

I'm wearing a dress I got for a wedding (evening) reception last year, cream pencil dress with red flowers and bow on, strapless BUT wearing cream shrug to cover bingo wings. Got fascinator as well but not OTT one.

I would say any nice dress you already have. being tall and slim you can get away with anyhting!

You all sound very overdressed for the races. It's not Ladies Day at Ascot.
