Which of these dresses for a wedding sept 09

I'm going to an evening reception of the wedding of a colleague at the end of September, and have seen 2 dresses I like from Debenhams.
It's between this, though might be a little too xmassy iykwim and this,.
I'm 44yr old so don't need too trendy and must be at least knee length.

I like this one too only £40 and very pretty, and September is usually quite warm isn't it?

I like the first one.

The second one, the first one looks like a bridesmaids dress.

The first one is horrible on. My very slim friend tried it on and she looked like something that goes on top of a Christmas tree.
