Sun hat for 12 year old girl - help please

Dd is going away with school. She has to take a hat. She says she doesn't want to therefore refuses to join in any discussion on the subject. At least if I pack her one, she then will be fully equipped and will probably wear it when she realises how hot it is.

So what would you buy? All help gratefully received

What kind of clothes does she wear? Is she sporty/trendy/studious? What activities will she be doing?

Key Question What is her best friend taking?

SlartyBartFast · 03/07/2009 20:30

go to new look, they are sure to have one she likes, the more expensive, the more appealing

Posey · 03/07/2009 20:35

She's a bit of all 3 characters you put!! But basically she is a bit of an H&M girl. Jeans or cut-offs, funky T-shirts, converses...
She will be doing quite a bit of sight-seeing (a city based trip) and it will be v hot.
lol at what is her best friend taking? I have no idea, and I've no doubt dd doesn't know either!! She says they don't discuss clothes (like today was non-uniform day and when I asked what her friends were going to wear she said she had no idea!)

straw cowboy hat

MrsBadger · 03/07/2009 20:45

thus

dizzydixies · 03/07/2009 20:46

take her to accessorize - no girl can refuse all the hats in there

glinda · 03/07/2009 20:57

I would try to persuade her into a baseball hat or similar. At least go for something she can scrunch up in the bottom of her bag when the sun isn't too strong, whilst having it accessible as the teachers will insist.

Posey · 03/07/2009 21:42

Sorry I disappeared and thanks for your help.
I'm not sure the cowboy hat is her thing, a bit too ostentatious I think, but thank you.
We have an Accessorise nearby, I hadn't thought to look in there.
Baseball cap...I think it may come down to that in the end, for the reasons you say, but will attempt other suggestions first.
Thanks again

I have a 12 yr old dd too - who is also fussy about wearing a hat now. I got her a plain cream baseball-style hat for her school trip (adult size). Seems to have been acceptable!

Posey · 04/07/2009 15:58

Well we had a highly unsccessful shopping trip!!
I told her we were looking and she was very unimpressed! One major problem is, she has a big head (full of brains!) and so a lot of hats, like all the ones in Accessorize, simply do not fit . I have said she has to take something, even if she doesn't wear it, so guess I will just get a v basic baseball cap, in men's size, and chuck that in her case!

Ho hum

DD1 14 has gone off on a residential with school this weekend, with orders to take a cap. After several weeks of looking in vain and refusing to wear any of them, she ended up packing dp's gardening baseball cap!

Posey · 04/07/2009 21:20

Just bought a men's cap, navy blue, in M&S. It will be put in without comment (she won't bother looking, she'll just get out what she wants to take and I'll pop it in amongst everything)
Thanks for help
