I got some 'Freederm' gel from the chemists. Reasonably effective, if not an overnight sensation. In this weather I also rely on some sun exposure in the privacy of my own back garden!

Was a tip in India Knight's latest book about crushing aspirins in water - probably a bit runny for the back though!

Do you have long hair?

There are salons/spas that offer various back clearing treatments - (like a facial presumably but on your back!)

I have long hair, how does that affect your back or is that really obvious?!

Long hair sitting on your back can cause spots from the natural oils and shampoo and conditioner.

I used to use a Clinique spray, it helped a lot, can't remember what it's called now though.

I've heard that conditioner can cause spots, so avoid getting conditioner on your back if you have long hair
