i cannot wear a dress!

im so damn hot atm but i just do not suit dresses - ive never ever found one that i could wear.
im a size 14 top and bottom and a fairly pear shaped with a bit of a tummy.(oh dont i sound attractive!) im also short - which i think is the main problem - ive got long legs and a short body which means that dresses just dont sit right! if i yank the shoulders up by about 2 inches they sit where they should and i dont look such a frump - is it me or is there really a body shape that just cannot take a dress? and am i it!?

if i could lose a stone i could happily wear skirts and vests but im feeling frumpy and have dieted my self unable to diet....i eat sensibly and exercise 3 times a week but i fear my wibbly bits are here to stay.

any tips!? today for work it was cropped trousers and a cotton shirt but tomorrow i need something really smart...ideas welcome peeps.

How about a tulip shaped skirt (hides tummy, looks great on short people and disguises any 'pearness'), and a fitted short sleeved blouse - volume on bottom needs to be paired with fitted top.

IkeaSnake · 29/06/2009 19:53

oh you are me.
You need the wallis one

IkeaSnake · 29/06/2009 19:54

is prob too short for work

I find straight short dresses are generally best with a short waist - any flaredy skirts hang off the wrong bit

pickyvic · 29/06/2009 20:00

thats lovely but probably is a bit short for work. plus im not that keen on my legs when not in tights - the shape of them is ok but im the wrong side of 37. love the maxi dresses but id need to add about 6 inches in height. see, im just too bloody difficult...i need Gok!

i have big trouble with dresses too, am different size top and bottom. are you in london? there is one in cos which might do.

and have you a large bosom?

fishie · 29/06/2009 20:19

ddifferent version of wallis - seems to be narrower and longer.

worth sending for at £15 vic, you can wear it at home if not smart enough.

pickyvic · 29/06/2009 20:36

ooooo now then...that one looks interesting actually. unfortunately not in London - am out in the stix OOOOP north!
thanks fishie...im hopeless with shopping and im not very daring. i forget there is a whole new world of internet shopping out there! could at least try it and see.

Dresses don't sit right on me either.

My legs are much longer than my body and I have very little in the tit department.

Its bloody annoying!

fishie · 29/06/2009 20:46

pp that sounds a problem many women would like to have. current fashion for pleats to start above bosom is worth a try.

i really like shirt dresses too vic, dire on me so am always hoping to get someone else into one. have you tried the dreaded next petites?

Tidey · 29/06/2009 20:50

They don't look right on me either. I'm short with huge norks. My top half is about a size 18 but I'm only a 12/14 on the bottom so they're either stretched too tight on my chest or baggy around my waist and legs.

Aaarggh.

fishie · 29/06/2009 20:58

for you pp

FatGirlThin · 29/06/2009 21:03

what about this

fishie · 29/06/2009 21:05

vic

or out of stock in 14 but possibly in store

pickyvic · 30/06/2009 18:46

oh cheers ladies - all of those are lovely but i suspect they might not look so lovely on me - i might try a shirt dress. im always a bit paranoid about my tummy showing or my hips looking huge....so that one with the big hip pockets could be a no no.... i rather like the pink one from M&S if i dared get the pins out...my legs are ok shape wise but they are very white!

think ill have a mooch on the net....im always sending for stuff from Next cos it looks lovely on the models - (you know those 6foot size 8 models!) different story when i try it on....something empire line would be ok i think on my shape but its getting the body short enough.

i really do need a good Gokking...(ooer)
