FAQinglovely · 29/06/2009 12:21

or is the answer not at all?

I've got on of my spaghetti strap tops on today - and my bra straps are showing it's not a good look is it?

Shoulder I put my (hot and uncomfortable) strapless bra on or change into a short sleeved top???

you see BA that's how I was brought up - but what else do I do with my boobs if I want to wear my strappy tops - and I'm lucky that I'm still slim enough (for now ) to wear them., and strapless bras aren't as comfortable.

I'm 9 days away from my due date so very hot indeed and I am struggling on with uncomfy strapless bra in order to avoid visible straps. Does this answer the question of how important?

pinkmagic1 · 29/06/2009 13:35

I think you can only get away with it if the top is the same colour as the bra. Better to buy a good strapless one really.

hobbgoblin · 29/06/2009 13:37

If you have to do straps make them hot pink under black or something and go smart.

Bra straps plus v. casual rest of you is bad imo!

If you wore crocs as well you would be really pushing the limits of acceptability!!!!!

FAQinglovely · 29/06/2009 13:37

I have no less than 3 (very expensive) strapless ones - but I do find although they fit well they're uncomfortable for all day wearing - ok for nights out but I don't know they just feel wrong for the whole day

I have blisters FAQ, I understand

FAQinglovely · 29/06/2009 13:54

I live in chav town where bright green velour tracksuit with large black "belt" round the middle (as worn by a mother at the school hasten to add NOT me ) doesn't even get a second glance lol

If you weara nude colured bra the straps blend in with your skin better than white of colours.
Failing that, I'd try to match the bra to the top.

I think the days when people said in hushed tones- "Look she's wearing a bra!" are over.

Life's too short.

TrillianAstrahasaJOB · 29/06/2009 14:02

No it doesn't mrsmerryweather - nude coloured bra straps are just as visible and more ugly!

I assume you're not at work and not appearing in court. As long as bra strap is a nice colour (not greying white) it's fine for it to be visible.

TheFool · 29/06/2009 14:07

I am much happier with a clean coloured or white bra than I am my nude ones.

FAQinglovely · 29/06/2009 14:08

my "nude" bra is just as visible on me as a white one.

no I'm not at work, or in court, in fact furthest I'll go tooday is the trip to the shop I've already made and then the school run again (where green velour and too much flesh will no doubt be on show ) - just twisted DH's arm to go to Morrison for me

Although, once I realised I was never going to be able to go braless or find a comfortable strapless bra again, I pretty much gave up caring if my straps showed.

Popilol · 29/06/2009 14:11

Have you tried the clear bra straps which you can use with bras with detachable straps. I first saw them being worn in Italy by very stylish and beautiful women and seems a good way of getting round the visible bra strap issue. Unhelpfully, I can't remember where I got mine from, maybe from M&S - a bra which had them as standard.

hobbgoblin · 29/06/2009 14:17

No, no, no no noooooooooooo!

TrillianAstrahasaJOB · 29/06/2009 14:18

I think the clear ones are visible too. Stop trying to hide your bra, everyone knows you're wearing one, just embrace it!

MrsSeanBean · 29/06/2009 14:20

Some of the wedding gowns on Hannah Lise are OK actually.....

ruddynorah · 29/06/2009 14:20

nooooo. 'invisible straps' are just as visible! if you can see your straps just make sure they're clean and nice, best if they sort of go with the straps of your top either in colour on in position they sit.

MrsSeanBean · 29/06/2009 14:21

Sorry wrong thread!

nessus · 29/06/2009 16:12

I have seen some people that imagine they do not need a bra that clearly need a bra In those instances, I would happily see any bra strap to save my sight, even greying ones would do!

foofi · 29/06/2009 16:52

FAQ - would be interested to know what is good about your strapless bras? Am currently wearing a strapless bra which looks fab when I first put it on, but then gradually sinks lower throughout the day until I might as well not be wearing one anyway.

bumpybecky · 29/06/2009 16:54

I have a grey vest top on today and my bra straps show. I'm not sure if I've committed a cardianl sin as the straps match, but only as they're over-washed white.....

I used to fret about my bra straps showing (also brought up to believe it Wasn't Done) but somewhere along the line I stopped caring so much. I don't know why. Perhaps because no-one raised their eyebrows/whispered behind my back/shot me/refused to ever speak to me again ( as implied by my mother).

But I don't know if you should take my word for it. I seem to commit fashion faux pas (gah- is that plural as well? BonsoirAnna-help!) on a regular basis......

TheFool · 29/06/2009 17:15

Nessus - if they are large bosomed women wandering round a supermarket/going for a takeaway then it is normally because we have taken said bra off (due to heat) and have decided to sod it for 20 mins
