Gaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!! Buying shoes is such a nightmare if you're a size 8...

I used to be able to buy shoes most of the time but these days I think either my feet have grown or sizes have shrunk. I'm not sure which.

Where do big-footed girls buy funky, interesting footwear that's not going to burn a hole in their pockets? I am probably between an 8 and a 9, and have relatively slender feet so Evans are far too wide (and also horrible styles). I reckon a reasonable price for a pair of shoes is £50-£65, and I wear mainly flats/ low heels.

Any help gratefully accepted!

I'm fairly sure I tried stretchers...and wearing them with thick socks! They did stretch a bit and the leather's not too hard, so I'm hopeful.

So glad your friend's shoe and bod issues are sorted!

I recently got 2 pairs of sandals from Next, love them both, very comfy and great price at £15 each. Have noticed they've sold out of a lot of them though. I'm 6ft as well as size 8 feet, so lovely wedges are out for me

I have never ever had any trouble buying shoes and I am a wide 8. I get mine from Marks, Monsoon, Faith, Primark (cheapo summer shoes) everywhere really. You are lucky if your feet are slender, my Hobbit feet take some shoe horning in sometimes...

Profiterole, I didn't realise The Flintstones had brought out a range of shoes

New Look have a great range

I was in Matalan yesterday and they had tonnes of fashionable shoes in size 8 . My Mum has big feet so I always look for size 8 and they were loads and loads all on trend styles too!!

MrsMerryHenry · 22/06/2009 21:19

Profiterole, there are a few designs there that I reckon I'd wear, but the prices! I'll keep note of that link, though, as they look like they'd last a good while.

Wherever - the thing is, with shoes (and all the more so with big feet), that if you buy cheap you end up with poorly-made shoes that don't last and feel uncomfortable. I've learned that from experience.

Mrsmaid - you must be a 'smaller 8' than me. I've just bought a pair from M&S which are definitely not long enough; and I can't even pretend to fit into Monsoon shoes. I did pre-preg, though.

bishbosch - I've not tried Matalan, are their shoes leather? Even if they are I'd probably find the same prob that I always have with cheap shoes (see New Look comment above).

My sister is a big size 8 / small 9 and now gets her shoes from www.tallgirls.co.uk , she's also tall and loves the clothes from there - especially when there's a sale on!

She has ordered from them a few times now and the customer service was great and the quality of the clothes and boots she bought are fine. (I heart the boots, but they don't do my size )

cocolepew · 22/06/2009 21:36

Two friends in work are both size 8 and they get most of their shoes from TK Maxx.

HeliumBee · 22/06/2009 21:37

How about vivaladiva? They have lots of styles - wide fittings too if necessary - they seem quite funky to me!!!

I know where you are coming from - also an eight - but my feet are quite fat too - urgh!

Try www.duoboots.co.uk

Great for large sizes, and you can choose the right width / calf size for boots.

LetThemEatCake · 28/06/2009 23:37

I'm a large 8 ...okay, probably a 9... Faith works for me

a whole section of their site devoted to Yetis!!

weegiemum · 28/06/2009 23:41

Wow you are lucky! I have been a 10 since I was 18.

Rindercella · 28/06/2009 23:51

Since having DD my already massive feet have grown to a size 8/9 (EU 42, always confused whether that is an 8 or a 9). I have ordered a few pairs from Office recently & haven't been disappointed. Size 8 according to them is a EU 41 & size 9 is EU 42.
