I'm so ashamed - my feet are disgusting. Warning: may contain descriptions which will upset those of a sensitive disposition

Seriously, don't read any further if you're eating.

What can I do? I'm pretty good at looking after myself and keeping myself well turned-out (sound like my mother) but my feet are boak-some.

I pick my toenails . To the point where I do not have toenails on my two smallest toes

My heels are cracked to fuck

I am currently sporting a plaster on the sole of my left foot where I have picked off the hard skin to the point of bleeding [boak] [boak]

There's hard skin everywhere.

I'm way too embarrassed to go for a pedicure. Should I see a chiropodist? Or what implements/potions/industrial tools do I need to buy to sort out this nightmare?

We really need a [boak] emoticon.

Your feet sound like mine. Won't describe in case anyone is eating as they read. It makes me laugh when you see those magazine articles about preparing your feet for summer and they say file off the dead skin and moisturize.

FigmentOfYourImagination · 21/06/2009 18:45

chiropodist.

Pedicure if not hardcore enough for you.

moondog · 21/06/2009 18:45

Are you my sister?

Stop picking.
Puire and simple.

BitOfFun · 21/06/2009 18:47

Chiropodist, definitely. They are used to gnarled hooves and you will feel much better when somebody professional has sorted them- your fiddling has caused more problems than it's solved by the sound of it. Wear mittens and leave them alone!

squeaver · 21/06/2009 18:47

I know moondog, that's what dh says.

Won't a nail salon turn their nose up at me??

OP posts:
squeaver · 21/06/2009 18:49

Mittens! Now there's an idea.

Actually there's a chiropodist just round the corner. Will make an appointment tomorrow.

sorry I mean pedicure is not hardcore enough for you.

Pedicure will just try to polish a turd. You need specialist attention.

theloneposter · 21/06/2009 18:51

nice pretty socks? can look funky.

squeaver · 21/06/2009 18:52

Ah thanks Figment.

Pmsl at turd-polishing

FigmentOfYourImagination · 21/06/2009 18:53

sorry squeaver. I meant it in a loving, supportive way....

QOD · 21/06/2009 19:00

seriously, invest in a ped egg, it's a foot cheese grater, sorted me right out
x

BitOfFun · 21/06/2009 19:03

Nooooo, step away from the graters! We've established that you can't be trusted with DIY

IDidntRaiseAThief · 21/06/2009 19:04

i got one of those normal grater things in superdrug the other day, the elegant touch one, and some new nail scissors, as they were doing a buy one get 50% off.

It was grate! Did some shearing, slapped on some Kamilosan ( i put this on everything, its not just for nipples imo).

had another go 2 days later, and boy do my feel look better. I was quite ashamed, as i'd gone into a nice shoe shop to get some summer sandals, and was sure the assistant must have been grimacing at the yuckness.

or go to a chiropodist.

Hope for the best, you sound like you have a fungal nail infection with the thickend and discloured toenails. You need to get anti-fungal stuff for that or it will not go away (it can take up to a yar of treatment to get rid of longstanding nail infections)

Figment - your loving supportive kick up the arse is just what I need

I'm quite liking the idea of the grater, actually. I once had a pedicure in the US and they used - no other word for it - a scalpel. God it was heaven. Would a chiropodist have one of those?

Hopeforthebest - we should start a support group

OP posts:
FigmentOfYourImagination · 21/06/2009 19:49

yes sqeaver they will have a scalpel, possibly one that looks like a little potato peeler.

squeaver · 21/06/2009 20:31

Well that's that decided then

OP posts:
2cats2many · 21/06/2009 20:35

I also have v. manky feet. I've resorted to using nipple cream on my heels to try ad beat the cracks.

llareggub · 21/06/2009 20:37

Adding solidarity.

I have disgusting toes, most probably a fungal infection anf I have FINALLY booked an appointment with the chiropodist. One nail is so thick it cannot be cut.

CMOTdibbler · 21/06/2009 20:38

Dh has hooves - honestly, he gets hard skin on his feet like nothing else.

The chiropodist has a good go with the scalpel, and they look totally normal again.

I used to take old ladies to the chiropodist - believe me, if the chiropodist didn't turn a hair at their feet, yours will be as of nothing to them
