say for a 'big' visit - ie full head of highlights and cut and blowdry, so over £100?

£5 or £6

Heated · 15/06/2009 21:43

I don't.

CacklingandBarking · 15/06/2009 21:44

er, is that something you should do then?

I'd say - You don't.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 15/06/2009 21:46

If they have done a cracking job and I am glowing with pride at my new bonnet, and if it is 'john' the surfer/owner, then £5 (cos he is quite fit, unusually for a hairdresser eh?).

Other than that, I consider the excessive amount I pay in order to get rid of my grey hair tip enough.

RockinSockBunnies · 15/06/2009 21:47

I tend to tip the girl who washes my hair £2 and the hot guy that cuts it £5!

lucykate · 15/06/2009 21:52

i don't tip!, am i really mean?

Goober · 15/06/2009 21:54

Since I am only charged £12 anyway, I just give £15.

fatjac · 15/06/2009 21:58

I always tip the junior who washes my hair and brings the drinks/mags a few pounds. If the salon owner cuts and colours my hair I leave nothing. He is loaded! If its regular stylist I tip them the same as the junior.

jkklpu · 15/06/2009 22:00

glad other people don't either - costs so much already

nigglewiggle · 15/06/2009 22:01

I don't.

I only tip waiters/waitresses.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 15/06/2009 22:02

fatjac - i always tip the owner, on the basis, it means I get priority booking, when I need my roots done in an emergency and I know I will always get the best job, time taken, extra detail etc (for example, I am currently having my hair dyed all over using foils, rather than a dye, then foils for lights, as I am pregnant and don't want to have the chemicals on my skin, but also want to cover my grey. This takes forever to do, but I only get charged for half-head of highlights).

I usually tip the person who washes my hair, as it means I get a fab massage next time . Purely for my own personal gain you hear!

cookielove · 15/06/2009 22:07

i also don't, although maybe i should cause i hear the juniors get paid pittance i hear, but then so do i, so i'm sensing i still won't.

Got my hair cut in canada for 13 dollars thats about £7 and still didn't tip ha ha

PhaseAte · 15/06/2009 22:09

do you know how often there are threads on this?

smartiejake · 15/06/2009 22:19

I get charged £35 for a cut and blow dry (from what is termed a senior stylist) that takes 40 mins at the most.

At those prices I don't tip.
