What to wear under tunic tops for work (not leggings)?

Does anyone have any ideas for slim-fitting black/blue trousers smart enough for work that go well under long-length tops? My usual trousers look too bulky when not worn with a fitted top? Not too expensive - £40 max. Thanks

HOw about:

These

Cropped
Skinny leg

Lots in Next, I have some great black ones, like the cropped ones in second link, but long.
There are other colours too, I just stick to black for the slimming effect.

Twitmonster · 05/06/2009 09:53

I know you said slim fitting but what about loose linen trousers?

Lizzylou · 05/06/2009 09:58

Yes, Tunic tops look lovely over linen trousers and you can get smarter ones.

Rafaella · 05/06/2009 10:15

Thanks - I'm 5ft3in so loose top and linen trousers makes me look too mumsy and round when I want to look chic and stylish. The Next ones look the sort of thing but for some reason Next trousers often don't fit me - I think I'm between sizes.

Bumping this for you as I want to know too! Gap have some nice ones but they were way too long for me.

pavlovthecat · 05/06/2009 16:56

Red Herring do some fab skinny jeans for about £30 I think, in blue and in black. They are proper skinny, I love mine but alas will not be wearing them again for a while (what with pg bump and all that!)

pavlovthecat · 05/06/2009 16:56

oh and they do short leg too, so if you have short legs like me, they will fit well (red herring in debenhams in case you did not know)

aaaargh it keeps deleting the first bracket grrrr

pavlovthecat · 05/06/2009 17:01

the first ones again too these are the ones I have or similar anyway.

janeite · 05/06/2009 17:02

Mine are needed for work, so jeans are no good. And I don't want skinny, skinny, just slim legged. Thanks anyway - and hopefully they'll be useful to Rafaella!

mololoko · 05/06/2009 17:40

i'm intrigued by these churidars

they look much better if you see them in context on the "other images" link

Clure · 05/06/2009 18:12

these look nice
these look not so skinny
these in navy

janeite · 05/06/2009 18:21

Ooh I never would have thought of Coast. They look a contender!

I seem to remember that somebody on here ordered the Toast ones and said they were horrible irl - can't remember who or when though.

Rafaella · 05/06/2009 22:22

Well, jeans are no good for work and I love the coast trousers but they only have a size 18 - will look for something similar. The White Company ones could be good but the picture is not, so hard to tell - we have a branch locally so I will try them. Also, I like the idea of 7/8 in theory but being on the short side may not be a good idea. The Toast ones look amazing for the kind of lifestyle I would like to have but don't, and I think you'd need to be 5ft10 to make them work. Thanks for the ideas.

I have discovered that cropped trousers are v. flattering with tunic tops

Pollyanna · 05/06/2009 22:30

I got some black, slim fitting cropped trousers from Gap recently that I wear to work with tunics.

janeite · 08/06/2009 17:43

I looked in Next and Gap yesterday. Gap had some nice ones but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. Next Petites only had linen trousers and jeans, as far as I could see.

Rafaella · 08/06/2009 22:16

I found some brilliant denim leggings in Mango - they look more like slim jeans than leggings but are really lightweight and comfortable with stretch. No good for work but I will keep looking for black.
