I'm going to the Opera on Sat. What does one wear to the opera nowadays??

I'm assuming I don't need elbow gloves and opera glasses, but I would like to dress up a bit. Will I look ridiculous? Will everyone else be in jeans & birkis?

ENO you could do anything from jeans up to what you'd wear to a nice restaurant. Anything over that would come across a bit OTT, IMO.

(think of it akin to what you'd wear if going to one of the big shows)

I haven't been for ages because of DCs, but I know I used to go to ENO straight from work so in smart work stuff and fitted right in. There were some scruffier and some more dressed-up but that's about the median point of smartness.
