Because it isn't me.....yet...

I have a pair from Sainsbury's of all places. Wear them with a slim fitting tank, cardi and gladiator thong sandals. They are sooooo comfy but I dread to think what my DH thinks. He hates anything remotely fashion-forward. Skinnies under a tunic/dress are his worst nightmare. I dress for me (on most occasions ) and I like them so they are staying.

dairymoo · 27/05/2009 21:36

Oh and I tried on those M&S ones and they were truly hideous.

BananaFruitBat · 27/05/2009 21:39

Hammer-time?

dairymoo · 27/05/2009 21:49

Have to say I am hating Gok's harem combo. IMO harem pants do not work with slouchy top as you look like one big pile of rags.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 27/05/2009 22:48

love Dairymoo's way of wearing them but fear that the ridicule from my DH would be too much for me to cope with. I love them because I think they look stylish and comfy (and not often those two words go together in a sentence) so perhaps I will succumb

mrsmaidamess · 28/05/2009 10:30

I'm still torn...I don't usually do full on 'trend', just a snooty passing nod to it. Dare I?

I have these which I love and which are surprisingly flattering - you do have to wear something fitted on top though, I usually go for a vest and fitted cardi and flip-flops. They're really comfy and amazingly cool in summer.

There are some really weird-shaped ones out there though, think you have to shop around to avoid the nappy look!

bleh · 28/05/2009 11:28

I have them and I LOVE them. They're the best ever. I have these and wear them all the time (and received a lot of grief for it). They're the best EVER when travelling, when it's hot, lounging around at home, I'm even thinking of jazzing them up for evening (in the event that I go out one year) with super-high heels and sparkly top.

Agree with the fitted top, otherwise it's too much material. They go very well with flipflops.

bleh · 28/05/2009 11:29

I got lots of Hammer-Time comments from siblings (jealous) and "those are very Asian" from Great Uncle. Whatever. It's true love.

mrsmaidamess · 28/05/2009 13:23

Ooh those La Redoute ones score a little too high on the dropped crotch stakes for me. I'd only wear cropped ones I think

I am a 14. Too Big for harems? I am tall

wahwahwah · 28/05/2009 13:25

MC Hammer? Baby with pooey napies? Swimmers in home-knitted bathing suits?

Not a good look.

Bettymum · 28/05/2009 15:03

I saw a woman wearing a pair on the high street today. I have to say I sniggered to myself. I would look ridiculous in them too, I'm quite sure.
However I do like the sound of the tank/gladiator combo...

Iklboo · 28/05/2009 15:04

I'd look like fecking MC Hammer THROWER in harem pants!

DarrellRivers · 28/05/2009 16:06

Bleh, I'm liking those Topshop ones
I think they will look fab all summer with all the great flat sandals that I've got
And I am so so so so so sick of trousers so tight I can't eat
Harem pants looks comfy

FigmentOfYourImagination · 28/05/2009 16:09

They are baaaaaaaaaaaad

FigmentOfYourImagination · 28/05/2009 16:10

The big saggy gusset makes the wearer look like they are faecally incontinent.

Not a good look last time I checked.

bleh · 28/05/2009 16:46

I think the key thing is how low the crotch goes. The ones I have have a VERY low crotch, so it either looks like a bubble-hemmed skirt of that they're meant to be that way (rather than saggy bummed).

They are INCREDIBLY comfy.

wahwahwah · 28/05/2009 18:08

But woulsn't you be tempted to try out a silly walk in them - see how long a stride you can take?

Grattage · 28/05/2009 18:42

SOrry

shit catchers

bleh · 28/05/2009 18:59

wahwah been there. Done that. The answer is: longer than my legs can stretch. (I think that's also part of the charm. I only do it in the privacy of my own home).

PleasinglyPointless · 28/05/2009 19:01

I had some when I was about 13. Ankle length. Got my foot caught running across the road and broke my wrist

ThePhantomPlopper · 28/05/2009 19:01

They look comfy, but they are bloody ugly looking.

I couldn't pull them off.
