Please talk to me about foundation ...

I'm using Armani foundation at the moment but can't get it locally and with postage included it's costing about £60 a pop - yikes!! So, I want a change. Any recommendations for Bobbi Brown products? I did use her foundation years ago and it was okay but there seems to be more choice now. Have tried Chanel Vitalumiere and didn't like it (too shiny). Ditto YSL brush foundation. Is it worth a 90 mile trip to city for a day's shopping and a Bobbi Browne makeover ?

TIA

What type of skin do you have - dry, oily?

Millie1 · 25/05/2009 15:48

Hi Macherie ... a mix! Oily-ish t-zone but my cheeks, in particular, get really dry during the winter. So I do need a moisturing foundation.

try matt lumiere?

hercules1 · 25/05/2009 18:46

Can I ask too please? I cant use the matt lumiere one as they dont do it light enough and the vit one makes me look greasy.

cocolepew · 25/05/2009 18:48

I bought the lumiere but don't like it My favourite is Maybelline Liquid Minerals.

curlygal · 25/05/2009 18:48

It's not really foundation but the no 7 tinted mosturiser is fab I stopped using foundation when I discovered it.

I used to like a prescriptives one, cannot remember which one though... and have had a bobbi brown one in the past but wasn;t that impressed

Oh I got a sample of the No7 tinted moisturiser, I have to agree it's very good, and I don't have very good skin.

YanknCock · 25/05/2009 18:58

Loved my Prescriptives Custom Blend. Never had foundation before that actually matched my skin and gave proper coverage.

MissBanjo · 25/05/2009 19:29

yes chanel ons not good for UN dry skin.

Millie1 · 25/05/2009 20:14

Thanks for all the replies. Tried the Lily Lilo minerals and didn't like it. Trouble is, I love the foundation I'm using now but can't justify the cost (and it's nicer going shopping than having the postman deliver ) so I guess I need to shop around a bit. Groan!

I've heard good things about Christian Dior Diorskin Face Flash - it's a spray on silicone foundation Amanda Holden uses - think it's about £27.50.

I'm using Bare Escentuals mineral foundation - not because it's amazing or realistic (it's ok though) but because it's spf 15 and so few foundations are.

macherie · 25/05/2009 20:45

Have to agree with yankncock, prescriptives custom blend is the best I've ever had, you can specify the formulation - matt, luminous, whatever you fancy! It is only a bit more expensive than Armani, but you get a big bottle, and a smaller one for your make-up bag, plus the container that it's mixed in which had enough left in it to last me about 3 weeks!

At the other end of the scale Barbara Dalys Tesco oil free foundation is great stuff and only a fiver a bottle, it's well worth a try

Millie1 · 25/05/2009 21:16

Shall have a look at Prescriptives too ...remember trying a Prescriptives foundation once and finding it 'chalky' ... maybe custom blend would be nicer. I feel a splurge coming on!

I've recommended the tesco one before too.
Just ordered some samples from lililobo.

howtotellmum · 26/05/2009 09:43

Have you looked at Clinique or Estee Lauder?

I use Clinique Repair wear- I had testers for Channel and found the ones mentioned here too greasy or not pale enough- they only do about 7 shades and that is not enough for my pale skin.

Lancome foundations are good too as are Bobbi Brown, but again, I found them a bit shiny- I have normal to dry skin, but don't like a greasy sheen!

hercules1 · 26/05/2009 09:44

I've used clinique before but not overly impressed.

hercules1 · 26/05/2009 09:44

In fact I thought tescos was better.

miche8 · 26/05/2009 09:47

if you want good coverage, that lasts the day try estee lauder double wear light, it doesn't feel heavy on my skin hate the mask feeling. Also like clinique foundations. Bobbi brown has a great range on colours but the one i bought a stick one, never blended very well and the counter is too far away for me to go and try another one out. Have to say i've had my make up done at most of the counters and bobbi brown gave me the best one, a pretty version of myself.

hercules1 · 26/05/2009 09:49

You see I found clinique oil free heavy.

geordieminx · 26/05/2009 09:52

I love clinique gentle light foundation
