How much do you spend a month on beauty products?

Things like makeup/cleansers/nail varnish/make up brushes etc?

I seem to spend around £50 -60 a month recently and was wondering if that was the norm, excessive or not bad?

Next to nothing on cleansing and moisturising (oil cleansing method bore here!), maybe a tenner on the odd lippy or mascara now and again?

hercules1 · 23/05/2009 18:26

Yes, I've just seen the oil cleansing method and am going to try it. Although tbh I already use a tesco cleanser with muslin cloth as recommended by cod. Very cheap.

What do you buy?

It all depends- If I run out of loads of stuff all at once, then it could easily be £100- then nothing for another 6 weeks or more. The mosituriser I use is about £30, eye cream ditto, night cream, ditto, cleanser is dirt cheap, and the only other stuff I buy regularly is shampoo and conditioner which last for ages.

I rarely buy make up unless what I have runs out. I have about 2 eyeshadows, 3 lippies/gloss, blusher, mascara, eye pencil and concealer. My only expensive make up is foundation- about £27 and concealer- both of which must last me around 6 months.

I do have my hair done every 6-7 weeks and that's almost £70, so that works out at around £35 a month I suppose!

Blimey - nowhere near that much.

Foundation = about 12 pounds every four months or so.
Mascara ditto.

Make up brushes: maybe one a year when I've got a No 7 voucher.

Cleanser - about a fiver every couple of months or more if I splash out on an Origins one.

Moisturiser - Olay Regenerist but only when half price.

Nail varnish - about a pound every six months with a No 7 voucher.

Eyeshadow - one or two Mac pots a year and then something lovely from dp each Christmas.

Blusher - maybe one a year - about 7 pounds.

Chanel foundation - the vituluminerie (sp) stuff although I wont buy it again as my face looks greasy, mac eye shadows, lancombe mascara, etc etc.

10 quid a month would be me over budget, most months I spend nothing.

foxinsocks · 23/05/2009 18:30

about once a year I'll buy new mascara, eye liner and lipstick (a few of each)

other than that, not much

might get some nail varnish when it's holiday time

probably buy a tub of moisturiser once every few months when it runs out (use that vaseline intensive care stuff and sometimes a Simple one that's more expensive or the Boots plain stuff)

oh and stuff to take make up off which I buy quite regularly

and stuff for horned hoofs

howtotellmum · 23/05/2009 19:45

How do you make mascara last a year? Mine gets used up every 3 months- but I do use a lot and every single day.

hercules1 · 23/05/2009 19:56

I wear make up nearly every day. Mascara is a must. as is foundation.

I use it every week day for work (mascara) but maybe it's because I have incredibly fine eye lashes so probably don't have to use a lot and the dcs bought me a really big mascara last time (for mother's day I think!).

fishie · 23/05/2009 20:05

that is a lot herc. i think probably £20 a month for me, including poncy hair stuff. maybe you are building up a good stock.

i find well chosen expensive stuff better than lots of cheapy.

howtotellmum · 24/05/2009 07:59

I think I'd have to work it out over a year then average it out- I reckon it is probably around £50 a month if I total it all up.

BonsoirAnna · 24/05/2009 08:02

Almost nothing on creams, cleansers etc because DP brings me so many freebies home from work .

I go to Sephora once in a blue moon and spend EUR 200 on make up which then lasts for ages.

howtotellmum · 24/05/2009 08:09

I've just done a quick tally! About £400 a year on basics, by which I mean all face creams, foundation, cleanser, lippie and mascara- rarely buy eye shadows til they run out (Ruby and Millie beige ones which last ages) and my Prescriptives blusher lasts around a year.
Use Clinique and REN face creams, including moistriser, City Block daily, eye cream, and night cream.

Reckon it's about £40 a month without any of the occasional extras.
