Is it better to shave...

... more regularly than not?

I don't shave too often - probably about once every 5/6 weeks.

I always shower using exfoliateing glove and always moisterise after shaving, but I suffer terribly with sore skin/bumps/rash for days afterwards.

Wondering if shaving more often conditions the skin, perhaps?

Any words of advice/experience much appreciated.

Do not exfoliate after shaving, that will aggravate your skin which is already 'exfoliated' by shaving.

Experiment with shaving foam, shaving oils etc. see which one is least irritating.

Shaving more frequently is just assaulting your skin more! I think its fine though, as long as you give up the exfoliating!

why am I on these threads today??!!!

Lol, Wwm.

Nothing better to do, like me?

A few years ago, I would shave 2/3/4 times a week and never had these problems... which led me to "conditioning" theory.

So, do I exfoliate before shaving, instead?

Oh, to be a man...

Dont exfoliate your legs at all! The shaving already does that, so there is no need at all. If you do then your poor legs are getting a real going over! and that's probably why they are reacting. a bit like sandblasting and sandpapering.

Yup, nowt else to do. ds playing with matey. though I think the washing up will start talking to me soon...

I shave every day/every other day, but save exfoliant for non-shaving days.

Ok, so no exfoliating on shaving days but fine for any other day?

My DS at his dad's and I'm enjoying a lazy afternoon having to do bugger all.

My skin does that horrible bumpy thing if I shave, or it used to. I bought an epilator a few years ago and have never looked back.

It's free (and as I bought the epilator in a CS for £4.99 or such, not an expensive outlay), and no more prickly stubble legs.

If you want to shave though, then I second trying different oils or foams. You may find one that works for you, but again like PP's have said, shaving does the exfoliating.

exfoliate twice a week, no more, even less if you shave a lot. The only point to exfoliation is to get rid of rough dead skin cells, and as it is abrasive it will damage your skin if you do it too much. As shaving performs much the same function, you probably don't need to do it as much.

So, exfoliate all over twice a week, except for legs, which you should only do sporadically.

why oh why do I know all this stuff???? Too much reading of mags, methinks.
