Do I have to wear a dress to a wedding?????

DH's neice is getting married in July in a very posh country hotel and when she announced that they were getting married, the neice made a remark that she wanted posh frocks and hats and didn't want anyone looking scruffy in her photos

I'm a good couple of stone heavier than I'd like to be and so not feeling very confident with the way I look right now.

I'm not a dress kind of a person anyway (think I last wore a dress on my wedding day 13yrs ago )but I've tried a few on lately and I look hideous!!!

I would be far more comfortable in a top and trousers and was wondering if this top would be smart enough and if so, what would I wear with it?

I'm thinking white trousers but we'll be at the wedding from 11.30am til late and have two dc's, so don't want to end up with grubby marks showing!

I'm sure nobody will be looking at me but I'm getting fed up thinking about it now!

That's a lovely top. Would be fine with black or white trousers imo.

maybe the frock remark was to make sure people dress up. she won't even notice on the day !!!

Completely agree with MoM.

I would ignore the bride tbh .... wear what you like and feel best in.

A top and trousers will be absolutely fine. You can still wear a hat if you feel like it, and heels if possible.

I would avoid white trousers personally. Goldish/straw-coloured maybe?

Yes, I don't particularly like the idea of wearing white trousers but dh said that he didn't think it's right to wear black clothes to a wedding - oh I don't know!!!!

I wore this top with wide-legged black trousers, a pale green jacket and killer heels to wedding recently. Got quite a lot of compliments too!

That top looks lovely! I think I should stop worrying about what other people would think and just wear what I think will look ok!

Sorry but i don't like that top - it looks cheap and as though you'd need to very careful near any naked flames. Also not sure how flattering it would be if you're feeling a bit heavier than usual.

I do think a top and trousers is fine though - warehouse have got some nice stuff in at the moment.

What size are you and how tall?

Flame · 20/05/2009 18:39

That'd be fiiiiiiiiiiiine.

don't like the second top

helsbels4 · 20/05/2009 19:16

I know what you mean about the naked flame bit () but I actually thought that it might hide a multitude of sins as it's fairly floaty and roomy.

Haven't got a Warehouse in my town (crap). I'm about 5'4" and about 11st 7lb

Glad you like it Flame

I can be trusted with many fabrics when naked
