Not sure if this is the right place, but would like some advice please on whether to dye my hair.

I am 41 and a red head which is now fading and going grey but not that noticeably yet as i have always had blond highlights.

I have been thinking for a while about getting back my old shade - especially as dd has pretty much the colour I had so I can see the difference every day

The upside I can think of is feeling / looking better, the downside is the cost / continual re-dying for the next 20 years (and i gather it takes 2 hours!!!!)

SO MN style jury please will you let me know what you think ...

Thanks

if you have it done at the hairdresser yes, it does cost a bit and takes a while - not sure about the 2 hours though, that sounds a bit OTT! You could probably just have roots done if you go more often? I have dark brown hair with grey roots, I dye mine every couple of months or so from a packet (Loreal or Clairol usually). Results have been fine, I think it's worth it, I really don't like my grey!

why not try a semi permanent first, it will gradually wash out over a month or two

Dye it.

But you can do it yourself rather than at the hairdressers if you're worried about the time/money.

Something to take into accunt is that as you get older your skin shade apparently lightens too, so your old original hair colour might not suit you the best any more, you might want something slightly blonder.

Go to the hairdressers and get a good base and then maintain it yourself.I have red hair but not much grey but I mix a bit of wash in hair tint with shampoo every month or so and it keeps it quite bright and glossy.

Thanks, I will

Just need to drag dcs in so hairdresser can check colour charts, have patch test and find a good book
