Help with make-up for a 1940's theme party?

Would you clever ladies be able to help me, please? We've been invited to a Height of Holywood Glamour party. I have a lovely ballgown in burgundy in the cupboard, so just to accessorise and have fun with make up.

Do I splash out on longlash mascara - does it work? Or shall I buy my first ever pair of false eyelashes?

And what lippy is recommended to give me a very bold colour and to last? Kinda Dulux effect, I'm thinking? (and do I need lip/pencil liner to go around it?)

And do I need to buy face powder to achieve a 1940's look, or shall I just use my usual foundation?!

I rarely get to dress up, and just usually throw on whatever is in my makeup bag, so am having real fun here . . .

I'd go for a pale and powdered look and lots of matte red lippy. Any old brand. It's more about the application than the brand I think. Check out some pictures of 1940s pin ups for inspiration. I reckon Dita von Teese has got quite a 40s look going on with her make up.

There is an article here
I don't think they mention a lipstick though.
