Would you wear a black...

dress in the summer?

I have a gorgeous jersey dress that fits so perfectly.

Just wondering if I'll get away with it through the warmer months and what colour shoes/accessories to go for.

Thanks in advance.

I would... bright colours would be lovely with it (shoes & bag) - electric blue, Fuchsia , & if you don't have my colouring, bright yellow. Emerald green?

yes, definitely, as long as there is not masses of fabric in it. Does it leave your arms bare?? How long is it?

I've been wearing a black jersey spag strap dress, just above the knee, with gold strappy flats or black Havaianas.

Thanks, guys.

It's calf length, deep V neck, 3/4 length sleeves.

yes I would

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 18/05/2009 22:58

Yes but agree with others that you need to accessorise with either brights or metallics.

BikeRunSki · 19/05/2009 11:15

Yes. Have a lovely one and LIVED in my JJMMBB one last summer when I was heavily pg.

HarryB · 19/05/2009 11:21

Definitely would wear it. Summer here just means you might be able to go without tights for 1 week in June.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 19/05/2009 11:27

I've bought a black linen dress specifically for summer. I always feel a simple black dress for eating out in the evening in France makes me feel less frumpily British more elegant than a loud Boden print - though funnily enough the black dress is one of Johnny's.

i wear the same clothes all year round - i have no seasonal wardrobe!

I only ever wear black (think I own three things that aren't!)

Disagree with the bright coloured accessories though - totally agree with Trinny and Susannah that black + bright looks cheap (in price that is), but tbh it's probably down to personal taste.

Wuxiapian · 19/05/2009 16:01

Hmmm... conflict of ideas re accessories.

Serenity, what sort of accessories do you wear with black, then?

Thanks again, guys.

Define accessories? I don't think I'm girly enough for this thread tbh I don't think I do accessorise, I like things quite simple.

I think deep or muted colours can look OK, and creams and ivories, but bright colours are just too much of a contrast - someone mentioned metallics, which I think works, once again if they're not too garish. HOWEVER, like I said it's personal taste, go with what looks good for you.
