What to wear in this bloody awful weather?

Woke up to rain for the 5th morning in a row, by this afternoon it was bucketing down.. a bit like last summer...and the one before.

As a point of principle I packed away my winter clothes on May 1st, I couldn't stand looking at them any longer.

That means when I go to get dressed in the morning I find an array of lovely summer clothes, dresses mostly (some of them never worn due to the lack of summer).

The problem is it's freezing, and very, very wet. Today I ended up layering a stripey t shirt, jersey dress, cardigan, black opaque tights and wedges. Very summery .But when I was going out, I had to give in and put on jeans and converse - boring, boring, boring.

I hate wearing jeans, but don't like wet legs either.

Any ideas on how to adapt a summer wardrobe to a crappy climate?

Buy waterproof over-trousers.

I've got my summer dresses and tops out - I've been wearing them over jeans, often with a vest underneath, and a cardie on top. (Over jeans only works with shortish dresses though.) You can then take some of the stuff off if it gets warmer.

I got some leggings to wear under dresses, layered t shirt under dress and cardigan on top, but my feet were freezing! Couldn't bring myself to do tights under leggings!

I suppose I need to emigrate really.

oh I feel your pain. Have not felt quite ready to pack away winter clothes yet but was v depressed seeing them all hanging there this morning.

I think layering is the only way to go but personally I would avoid opaques and go for leggings (if you have really cold feet wear socks and boots with them ). Otherwise wear jeans or cropped trousers beneath.
