A question re tights/leggings worn with short dresses

Bear with me here, I need my hand held a bit before trying this style out, but was enthused on a recent thread that ladies over 40 could perhaps do this...

The pretty dress/footless leggings + little shoes I like. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to.

But on horrid days like this, would opaque tights be ok instead with boots? And if yes, what sort of boots or shoes?

I can't see me in high ones on a day to day basis (much as I like them). If this is a big no, please tell me now before I make a twonk of myself Thanks style divas!

Tell us, do you have lovely pins?

SoupDragon · 15/05/2009 13:07

I think that you'd need skinny jeans with boots rather than tights.

mrsmaidamess · 15/05/2009 13:08

Your dress/top needs to be longer if you are wearing opaques.

But personally I can't bear wearing tights after March so always go leggings, ( mainly 3/4 length as they are mroe flattering on me..)

TsarChasm · 15/05/2009 13:08

Ah well I wouldn't say lovely but measurements are 5'10 12/14.

I wouldn't go bare legged as knees not all they were, but encased in leggings they pass muster under a dress I think.

what about these instead?

TsarChasm · 15/05/2009 13:15

Skinny jeans I tend to steer clear of. I assocoaite them with a Kate Moss physique and very thin thighs.

I veer towards pear shaped

Tsar , I too veer towards pear shape but if you put some heels on , it all sort of balances out.

Don't tell me you don't wear heels, I shant listen .

I used to MrsM but feel over dressed in them now unless for a special occasion. I do love the look of them on other people but I couldn't for the school run or supermarket. I'd feel conspicuous cos I'm tall anyway.

I don't feel as confident as I used to I guess...

You have to be careful with long length leggings and flat shoes that your legs don't look like golf clubs though.
