Red lipstick-yes or no?

I'm off to a wedding in Cyprus soon. My dress is red and white, a sort of fifties style. I've got red nail varnish, so that's ok, but I don't know whether to go with a red lippy as well.

Would it be too much? I've never worn red, mainly because I'm not sure it suits me (dark blonde, fair skin with freckles kind of colouring) and also because I'm slightly concerned that I might smear it across my face in a moment of forgetfulness.

What else could I wear? A nude sort of shade?

Help me! I want, for once, to look 'well put-together' instead of thrown together.

Maybe look for a sheer slick of red colour. Elizabeth Arden do a scarily bright looking red in their 8 hour lip protectant range but it is very sheer and easy to wear - and will be good for your lips in the Cypriot sun. Boots stock it - look for the Eight hour skin range and you will find about 6 shades of the lip protectant as well as the uncoloured version. They all have different names like honey and berry but I can't remember the name of the bright red one, sorry.

Im blonde with fair skin and freckles and sometimes wear red lipstick.
MAC are very good at matching a red to your skintone, both of mine are from there.
The trick is to wear practically no other make up, no eyeshadow, just a good base and mascara.
Always do one or the other, shocking lips or shocking eyes, do both and you'll look like a hooker

Ooh now that would be a good look- hooker at a wedding .Thank you both for your advice- I'll look at both of those ideas.

I think I may have tried that one, Frivol- it seemed to go pinker on my lips than it looked in the tube. Maybe I've got weird lips or something.....

But thanks, anyway!

just found my red Eliz Arden one - it's the one called Berry (holly berry?) if you get the chance to visit boots or department store

MAC do very good matte red lippys, maybe not so "over the top" as a gloss one?
