Can I go 'all black' to the evening reception at a wedding?

Can I get away with wearing black trousers and a black top to an evening wedding reception? Or should you add some colour? Whats appropriate? I'm really struggling to find something nice that looks dressy without being over the top!

I'm off to a evening reception at the end of the month and today I got an amazing shift dress from Oasis in a zebra print, am going to wear it with either think black tights or leggings and heels.
