80s style party

I'm new to style and beauty but you guys seem to have such brilliant ideas....perhaps you can help me?
I've been invited to a 40th birthday party and the dress code is "80s style"! What would you wear?? I am 41, reasonably slim on top but large hips and bottom. I couldn't bear to wear anything involving leggings...and really don't want to look silly. Please help....

My friend went to an 80's party and wore denim dungarees a la Dexy's Midnight Runners!

You should have a look at the large amount of vintage 80's clothing on Ebay, it might give you some inspiration and maybe a costume.

I bought some 70's stuff on there for myself and my fella for a fancy dress party, and then sold it again after the party, some of it at a profit!

how about wearing a skirt over the top of leggings (thus avoiding exposure of the bottom/top of thighs area)?

Classic 80's look would be short(ish) skirt over leggings, black stilettos, loose t-shirt knotted on the side and mahoosive hair (back-combed and sprayed with Elnett or Hard Rock for true authenticity )
