Its going to be a registry office with only a few people there but we are still dressing up a bit iyswim.

any other dress suggestions very gratefully received - I'm 5,7 and a size 8 but with a waist and hips so not straight up and down. I dont really want to go long or fluffy or embroidered...

I think I like the grey one best but am a bit worried about what I would wear with it - am not really a shrug sort of person - am more of a converse/skinny jeans sort of girl...help...

bigusbumus - dp will be expecting me to be wearing our glasto wedding attire - without the wellies though so he will be in morning dress - navy jacket and grey striped tousers iyswim - no tie though...and mine was a pinky/purple satin halterneck dress.

bettybeetroot · 11/05/2009 14:42

giantkatestacks · 11/05/2009 14:48

The first reiss one is FAB

blondissimo · 11/05/2009 15:19

I like the second one - my friend got married in reg office recently and had one from coast. It was similar to this

HaventSleptForAYear · 11/05/2009 15:23

Nice first one. I don't like the grey ones, they look too school uniformy or something or officey.

HaventSleptForAYear · 11/05/2009 15:24

I mean first Reiss one!

I quite liked the purple debenhams one too but noone else did!

I tried on Monsoon dresses as possible wedding dresses and found them a really bad fit - or am I just a wierd shape?

giantkatestacks · 11/05/2009 16:19

haventslept - I think they come up quite big on top imo.

Am, definately going to try those 2 Reiss dresses on this weekend if I can find them (and some of those monsson ones too) - they grey riess one would mean I wouldnt have to get changed for honeymoon either - tho it looks like I could have bra problems with it...

I think your 2nd choice and the Ghost dress someone linked to are the best. The grey ones all look like office wear.

giantkatestacks · 11/05/2009 18:21

I know theres an office wear thing with the grey ones but in my office its all converse and jeans so even a grey dress for me is dressing up - and I have got this idea of me stepping out of a watertaxi in venice at the other end in them - though some of them are so tight I just might beach myself on the landing stage instead...

This?

Thus?

ilove · 12/05/2009 09:00

I like the second one on SandyChick's list

MmeLindt · 12/05/2009 09:08

I liked the Verbena dress from Monsoon and the Mimi one from Reiss best.

The grey ones just look a bit blaaah, not special enough for a wedding, even a small one.

yes sandychick's second one is nice.

Its funny cos the problem I have with the grey ones is that they're a bit too sexy and not dull at all - with heels especially. But I suppose they are going to look a bit odd if I'm holding a bundle of white tulips or some wild flowers or whatever...

[I now have the look of someone who has failed to think anything through]

How on earth could you compare them all as well - its not like you can try them all on together - has anyone got any good tips for going upto town and remembering what they look like - oh a friend and a digital camera perhaps - or is that just mad?

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 12/05/2009 09:45

Take photos with your phone/camera in the mirror if you are on your own, or get your friend to take one.

Make sure you have shoes with you so that you can see what the dresses will look like when you are wearing heels. And decent undies

giantkatestacks · 12/05/2009 09:51

thanks MmmeLindt - The undies is a key point ditto hair removal...

Am feeling tired just thinking about the traipsing involved - I just need to find somewhere that has a Reiss, Monsoon and Debenhams close together [slumps over keyboard at prospect of trip to Oxford Street and not being allowed to go to Top Shop]

OP posts:
TsarChasm · 12/05/2009 10:07

Silver

Marthasmama · 12/05/2009 10:10

The Ghost shop is near Oxford Street.....Or Liberty always used to do Ghost dresses. Go to Topshop as a reward for doing wedding dress shopping.

giantkatestacks · 12/05/2009 10:11

another one for the trying on list - thanks TC.

MmeLindt · 12/05/2009 10:15

Is there a dept store with shop in shop where you could try on several in the same shop? John Lewis perhaps?

ChampagneDahling · 12/05/2009 10:38

GKS - you need to try them all on and see which you feel most comfortable with. You obviously like the "grey/silver" ones best and they can always be jazzed up with a bright accessories, shoes, pashmina, fascinator, bag etc - please don't go all grey, you need some relief.

Congratulations and best of luck, hope you have a lovely wedding

giantkatestacks · 12/05/2009 11:03

Thanks CD - I suppose I just think I will get the most use out of something plainer and it will be easy to accessorize with things I already have - If I have to go out and buy new shoes as well it will tip me over the edge and am going to turn up in whatever I'm wearing that morning to run around after the dcs...

HaventSleptForAYear · 12/05/2009 11:31

Ooh Sandychick's second one is lovely.

Order it to try on. No traipsing involved. You could definitely waft out of a taxi in that.
