Anyone else think they are a little bit addicted to shopping?

Cos I think I am! I am a SAHM, and my only income is from selling a few bits on ebay (dh takes care of the mortgage, bills, etc), however at every given opportunity I like to look online at clothes, shoes, accessories, and more recently things for the home. I will also take any opportunity to go to the shops. I have been a bit more disciplined recently, but I always put things on my credit card and think about it later.
I know that if I was a level headed individual, I should sell my designer bags to pay off the debt, but I refuse to part with them.
I have always been like this, and although I know there is a financial issue here, which I am vowing to sort out, I actually quite like being a shopping addict!
Am I insane???? Anyone else like this?

yes i love shopping. including food shopping. even potatoes can be quite thrilling.

i think it is partly hormonal. am particularly in thrall to the hunting urge in second half of cycle.

Yes, I am. It's under control because there is also a side to me that likes to save money, but I do love buying things. And as others have said, even buying food gives me a little bit of a thrill...
But seriously, I have noticed that my mood always imvproves if I buy something - it's like a drug induced rush.
Luckily I have some good charity shops around here (for cheap thrills), otherwise I would be in trouble...

UndertheBoredwalk · 09/05/2009 00:18

Yeah am exactly the same, am utterly and hopelessly addicted to shopping. Also love just foodshopping
My only saving grace is that I get an even bigger thrill finding bargains and have become pretty good at hunting bargains out, so I get to still shop but not bankrupt myself in the process!
There is no greater pleasure than coming home from a full day shopping laden with tons of bags, and then going through everything (or is that one just me?)

creamcaramella · 09/05/2009 01:19

Is there an SAA?

kickassangel · 09/05/2009 02:04

well, i do get a bit of a lift from thinking abut shopping, but the buyer's remorse usually kills it - i nearly didn't sleep after do a big food shop recently!!
so, i often browse, then leave it. if i find i still think about something or think 'bugger i really do need a new bra/whatever' then i will go back & look again. so often things don't look half so nice second time around!! i get far more satisfaction from saving than spending, scrooge that i am!

luckily, i have enough clothes that i can often do without until i spot a real bargain, then i don't get the buyer's remorse.

dh is contemplating getting me some jewellery for my birthday, but we neither of us have the nerve to walk into the shop & buy it. it's within our budget, absolutely gorgeous, will last forever, and the only pressie i'm getting for my 40th. but we just can't quite do it!!
so, no not addicted, even though i like to dream.

I hate shopping for something specific but I love nothing more than a good flea market.

You can guarantee that all shops will be selling nothing but pink Crocs if you're looking for black shoes, or orange ra-ra skirts if you're after a pair of grey trousers for work.

frannikin · 09/05/2009 13:42

I like saving (my DP refers to it as money making babies) but I get such a thrill out of shopping and when I do go I end up spending much more than I meant to because I get carried away....

went shopping for 1 corset, bought 3

sazzerbear · 09/05/2009 13:45

Its all relative, when you don't have much dosh I find anything becomes exciting to buy even boring stuff like limescale remover! (Need to get out more)

poshsinglemum · 09/05/2009 15:05

I love shopping too and bargain hunting is the best! If I get a dress that I have lusted after for ages in the sale for half price then I am made up for ages afterwards.Food shopping is also a thrill. I don't think that anything is wrong with it unless you are seriously in debt and it is damaging relationships etc.

kickassangel · 09/05/2009 16:56

hmm, getting into debt, not even seriously, is pretty damaging.

where do you think the current recession has come from?

it's utterly harmless if the time & money are available, but if you're dragging kids round the dhops every day, or running up debt, it's not so good.

i don't think dd would let me get too addicted, more than 3 shops in a row (or 1 big one) & i'm getting told off!

gibba8 · 09/05/2009 19:39

I have only become addicted to shopping since my little one was born and it is really getting out of control now. I get such a buzz out of buying anything for her and it is usually stuff she does not even need but i just can not resist.

Hate food shopping though!

mummysdude · 10/05/2009 16:35

Having just returned from Bluewater with a straw cowboy hat...thought I'd better check this post!
I'm with nine dragons - hate shopping for something specific as can never find it! But love love love browsing, whether online or at the shops in person! Not a fan of food shopping really, but anything else...clothes...shoes...bags...electronic equipment..DVDs...CDs...iTunes....anything on ebay...shall I go on?
So glad am not the only one!

blondissimo · 11/05/2009 13:19
