following on from this thread - I have a dress and jacket but now need shoes and a bag!

Can only afford one pair of shoes - should I get black (classic, will go with everything) or are they a bit harsh for spring/summer Should I go for something brown/tan?

Jacket is a stone coloured classic fitted type thing and have a few dresses - mostly summery - that it will go with. I have nice
wedgy sandals that will be fine on a warm day but if I want to be more formal, I think I need tights and shoes.

Any tips please?!

Def. not black- too harsh for summer and a bit dated.

Can you pick out one colour from the dresses such as blue, purple, pink etc etc?

If you go for brown, I'd suggest taupe rather than dark brown, but I still think a colour would bebetter.

are you dresses long and floaty or short and sassy?

Tommy · 06/05/2009 09:41

thanks ohdear - I was chatting to a friend this morning and we came up with beigey - taupe is probably the right word

My dresses are a mixture of long and floaty and shorter (wouldn't necessarily say sassy - unfortunately). I'm likely to wear the jacket quite often as it will go with lots of things so probably will find shoes to go with that rather than the outfits

I didn't realise what a palaver it all is!!

I was thinking more like these...

KristinaM · 06/05/2009 11:06

i disagree, they are too high and uncomfortable. and a bit weddingy. Esp as you are a birkies woman normally

medium stacked heel or smart wedges not stiletoes

beige is boring but useful

are these hush puppies too middel aged? or these

i agree with those who say you need business dress but not too formal. dresses and jackets souunds fine, as long as not too mother of the bride

howtotellmum · 06/05/2009 11:08

KMNot with pretty summer dresses.

howtotellmum · 06/05/2009 11:10

P.s.- all down to individual taste but some women wear stilletos every day, not just for weddings!

KristinaM · 06/05/2009 11:36

i know - i admire them but cannot emulate them

flowerybeanbag · 06/05/2009 11:38

Those first LK Bennett ones in taupe are gorgeous.

Tommy · 06/05/2009 12:12

krustina - you are right - those LKBennett ones are just too high for me

I looked at the Hush Puppies ones online but couldn't find any in town.

the asistan in Schuh recommended I went to Office (never been there before!) and I got these whcih I wasn't expecting but I tried them on and they are suprisingly comfy

so, thanks for all your help
