'Mother of the bride' help needed please ladies

MotherOfTheBride · 05/05/2009 21:03

name changed so as not to out my usual name incase my mum is lurking

i am getting married in the early autumn and my mum is strugling to get bag, shoes and cardie/shawl to match the dress she has chosen,

my mum is late 50s (but young at heart) she is 5,7 ish and a size 16, she has great legs and a good natural olive skin tone,

it is a fairly informal day, non religious service outdoors with dancing and a beach bbq in the evening,

so ladies, the dress she has bought is this one and it really suits her

she is finding it hard to match the rest, she has bought a navy cardie for the evening with these shoes in navy and a navy bag,

i like the shoes and bag but i am not sure navy is the best colour match,

i think the green/turquoise/red colours might bring the best of the dress out,

one, who am i to judge

two, where the jiggery is she going to find shoes, bag and cardie in that colour anyway

help, please

Navy is too matronly for a sassy young MOTB. And those shoes are not 'special' enough, even though it is an informal wedding.

would she do metallic? Metallic would work and add the necessary va va voom as well

EldonAve · 05/05/2009 21:48

Red or turquoise?
red?

MotherOfTheBride · 05/05/2009 22:05

i agree, i think,

red or turq is better,

i know it is informal but i want her to feel a million quids,

can you find shoes/bag and cardie?

tough task...

I think red or turquoise is too much ... and could be quite horrid unless the colours match the dress perfectly.

Sorry.

But will happily find you some bronze accessories....

EldonAve · 05/05/2009 22:11

cardie
shoes
bag

MotherOfTheBride · 05/05/2009 22:11

letthem,

i didnt mean that bronze or metalic was a no go, honest,

i just meant i think navy could be improved on,

any ideas are good,

thankyou

head wotsit

MotherOfTheBride · 05/05/2009 22:14

ave,

i like the cardie (simple and nice) and the shoes (very sexy)

the bag (for £30) is ok (iykwim)

my mum is very young for her age,

i think the shoes would suit her (great pins) and the cardie is almost the same as she picked but in red and not navy,

not overly in love with the bag

ave,

she has bought something like this

now, i like the navy,

but do you think navy is the best colour or maybe red or green,

you all need to zoom in to see the colour difference,

the navy is the last colour to grab your attention,

is this a good rule of fashion?

I would wear nude high shoes with it, poss peep toes. Really good nude tights too - non-shiny.

I would maybe do cream/white for a cover up, not sure would need to try on. Defo no more red though . Are we talking a bolero type of thing or a jacket type of cardie?

Her shoes are too heavy and frumpy for the dress imo.

Metatron · 05/05/2009 22:59

If the turq bolero on the monsoon website is a match I would get it.

MotherOfTheBride · 06/05/2009 07:05

which one?

and what shoes would be better (beach wedding, killer heels not great idea)

KristinaM · 06/05/2009 11:13

can i suggest that cardi, bag and shoes don't have to be the same colour?

EldonAve · 06/05/2009 14:19

maybe navy bag and shoes but red cardi

Metatron · 06/05/2009 16:37

this one

Metatron · 06/05/2009 16:45

i like these

and these

maybe swap for flip flops after the ceremony?

Metatron · 06/05/2009 16:48

aha

wedges

MadameCastafiore · 06/05/2009 16:50

I think navy would look lovely and not Mutton Dressed as Lamb - would maybe chuck in a red fascinator though.

MotherOfTheBride · 06/05/2009 22:44

right,

i love this one

and this one

the others suggested are lovely but dont go up to a size 16

i agree the shoes and bag could stay navy,

like wise, the cardie could be turquoise and the shoes still red to match the bag,

any more offerings?
