Good grief. I went from blonde highlights to red yesterday and the red is stupid bright. I know it will fade and calm down but I seriously regret having it done. My colour lady said it will come out in 28 washes, but she put some kind of pre-colour on it first as you can't put red straight onto blonde apparently. I am just wondering if anyone knows if this pre-colour is permanant - I hope not as it was orange . Please give me hope that it will wash out too along with the hideous claret that is now my hair colour. I'm too ashamed to leave the house. Many thanks

I had a terrible hair accident last year, going from auburn to black. And it was prope blue-black too. Just awful. (Was supposed to be brown).

I was told to wash my hair loads and loads over and over again with Head and Shoulders original, as it strips the hair colour. It worked and within a few days i was a very dark chocolate instead.

Try that?

Thanks BigusBumus, I will give the H&S a go. I don't know which part of "I don't want a plum colour" the woman didn't understand. Typical English me, didn't say a word until I got home and ranted at DH.

I hate that plum colour too. Wash it loads (5 times?) with H&S, one wash after another whilst stll wet, and then conditioner at the end. Do it every morning for a week or so, should fade to auburn/chestnut i would have thought.

Brilliant, will do.

The salon can take it back to the orginal colour if you can bear to go in and tell them you hate it.
Or ring up a another really good salon and see if they have any suggestions.
Head and shoulders is good too

heavens, do go back if you hate it. washing it will definitely help it calm down though too. i've also read washing up liquid helps strip out the colour.

The thing is goodnightmoon, I have already spent £150 on having it done (that did include a cut) so can't really spend anymore on my hair this month. I'll persevere with the Head & Shoulders for now. So glad I am on maternity leave and don't need to go to work today looking like a nutter.

My cousin had her highlighted hair dyed brown and she has regretted it ever since. She used to look stunning and youthful, now she looks very dreary and dull. It is good you went for a red instead of brown, so hopefully in a few washes you will have a lovely shiny red colour.

P.S she was told that the brown won't come out of her hair until she grows it out, but it is already alot lighter than when she first had it done (it is now a mousy brown colour)
